Hello all,

I'm located in Edmonton, AB Canada. I've owned a combined 57 motorcycles and cars including a few different convertibles, two S2000s and a first generation MX-5.

I stumbled across a Z3 2.0 with 56000kms in Japan online that captured my interest for whatever reason so I pulled the trigger. I know the 2.0 wasn't around for too long so I'm struggling to find too much information on it, the car should be on the ocean in the next few days and I should have it by the end of January or so - will be a few months before the snow melts and I can actually see what it's like to drive. Any advice or comments on these cars will be appreciated, here are a few pics:

Thanks, Tony! Anything I should lookout for with the 2.0?
No nothing, if it has been regularly serviced they're bullit proof. I have changed the Auto oil and filter and the inlet camshaft sensor but mine is on 85,000.

Tony.

Welcome to the Canadian Zeds! Isn't it a joy tracking through the Canadian rules and regs?? Bought mine, a97 1.9 from an ad, shipped to Halifax then transported to my drive just north east of Winnipeg. Every step done on my iPhone never spoke to a person other than by email and paypal. Good luck, I'm sure you'll love the car and the knowledge on this forum is awesome. Have a great holiday season, later, JIM

Thanks, Jim! I've, fortunately, imported cars from both the US and Japan previously so I'm familiar with the paperwork and, at times, the lack of information. Weirdly enough, this is also not the first time I've purchased a car without ever driving it or even one similar, excited to see what it's like to be in and drive!

Hello from Cornwall. That's a lovely looking car you've bought. I don't know or heard of anyone who has ever had a bad Zed. You'll love it

Welcome from Tasmania Australia. I also bought my 2.2 sight unseen. I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed with the Z3 and your only regret will by why you didn't get one a long time ago. :)

Anyone know where I can get a service manual for a 2.0L? For things like fluid capacities / torque values

Hi and welcome,

Try here for information on the M52 roadster: http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/

Other wise the best reference material is the Bentley Service Manual for the Z3 there is one currently for sale on eBay in Canada

Do I have to worry about the subframe issues on a 2.0L model? Or is this an issue that only affects the higher displacement, more torque producing versions?

Anything is possible, but in all likeliness nothing really to worry about. We just took off an refurbished the rear subframe on my 2001 2.2i which has done about 105k miles - no issues at all to be seen anywhere with the boot welds or diff hanger. I fact we couldn't believe how clean it was underneath!

Maybe on the earlier larger engined models it's worth inspecting carefully, but I'd say not to worry on a facelift 2.0 model ;)
