Whilst out in our Bob this afternoon, we noticed a ticking sound coming from under the bonnet, it could be heard whilst stationary.
First thoughts were it's lost a lot of oil, or the vanos had gone wonky :meh:.
After a bit of investigation back home, I was very relieved to find it was just the electric head light adjuster :)...phew.
So i took it out and gave it a spray of w.d but to no avail. I've left it on the car but unplugged the wiring connector for now.
Hopefully a replacement from one of our parts suppliers will have one to sell me, @Synclare Adrian do you have one ?, hope so as your not far from me ;).

Steve.

You've brought back some memories with that @Bozzy. 40 or 50 years ago, when cars were simpler, when we heard a 'ticking" under the hood, it was one of two things. Either it was made by an electronic jump in the secondary ignition system from the coil tower or the distributor cap or an arc from one ot the ignition wires to a ground, or you were getting the very first indications of an exhaust manafold leak either from the exhaust manafold gasket or a tiny break starting in the exhause manafold itself......................Frankie

PS. Once in a while, a bad drive belt also..................

Now when you hear someone's got a 'tick', people automatically tend to think you've got chronic compulsive behavior disorder.....Frankie

I always hear ticking from under the bonnet after I turn my car off. Was told this is just the heatshields cooling down and a trait of my engine so it hasn’t really concerned me :bag:

Used to have an e30, and that was really loud when it was cooling down. Caused many a comment in pub car-parks. Perhaps it's a BMW thing.
