Sorry for delay in answering but we had unexpected guests tonight.

Hi Tony,
Did you fit the chrome hoops and are they fixed only at both ends. They look as though they fix through the lid of the storage box. They look good.

Hi Tec, yes I fitted this "style" bar, I call it that as it is NOT a roll bar and would not offer much protection in a rollover crash. Having said that I think it would offer more protection than having nothing at all and bear in mind having driven for almost 40 years I have yet to put a car on it's roof!! They are only fixed at the ends and render the centre storage box unusable too.

It looks good,
Do you mind me asking where you bought it from and dare I ask how much and what the fitting entailed...

Tec

Shhhhhhh. It was Dixon of Dock Green.

I honestly can't remember what I paid but it was s/h off eBay. Probably from someone who had upgraded to the "real" thing. My budget wouldn't stretch to that so I bought this one. You will find them on eBay and maybe even a used one.

Just so you guys know, there are no sources locally to buy non-roll hoop wind deflectors in the US. To buy a type I from a supplier in the UK or the Netherlands would run us approx. $350 - $380 USD postage inclusive. Over here All Zeds have roll hoops unless they are a '96 or very early '97 production car. The only wind deflector available is this abortion http://www.amazon.com/Rated-BMW-Z3-...=1427544674&sr=8-7&keywords=z3+wind+deflector (my apologies if anyone actually has one of these).

Might hold on for a while until I look into the roll hoop option first from my last thread, thanks

If you can't buy one why not make your own?

Hi Guys,
Take pity on me. I'm clueless. I'm looking for a wind deflector too. I've looked on eBay and you're right there's loads but I'm confused. I've got rubber headrests behind the seats. Do I need to remove these before I fit a wind deflector? Also what's the difference between the mesh and Perspex ones, apart from the obvious! Is one better than another?

Cheers
Lisa

Theres one for sale in the for sale section that will fit yours. It attaches to the hoops. You can get perspex ones that also fix to the original hoops.
The ones that you see that are affixed to the frame are not for a car fitted with roll hopes.

If you get one off e bay make sure it has the fittings (voice of experience)

Hi,
I want to fit a wind deflector on my Zed. There's no roll bars on the car, so I'm thinking of the mesh type but unsure of how they fit or how reliable they are without roll bars to support them.
I've scoured the net but can't find any. My Zed only has the two hole fitting points on the posts, so if any of you out there have any knowledge of this type, that would be great.
Hi mate.

Mine is the type 2 mesh and works a treat:thumbsup:

I'm not sure what type mine is, but it looks like this and is not reliant on the "roll" hoops as it came with the car and I fitted the hoops later.

And yes it does make quite a difference.:)
