Whats your ideas guys on V8 Z3 Conversion im thinking a Chevy Small Block.

Aye i had seen i wanna have a crack at it myself. Its working out how easy it can be done.

Fit a Diesel engine, never been done yet ;)
Not as daft as it sound because if you could fit say the straight 6 3.0L out of a 330D that would make a formidable tool with so much torque available.

I agree with Aceman these BMW diesel engines have been tuned to more torque than a ferrari F430, plenty on the web about it, and it would be great to see a Z3 diesel

I was being serious too.. Yes a 330d lump remapped in a z3 would be excellent.

Fitting a V8 cant be described as 'easy'. Count on several hundred hours work and plenty of technical issues. If you are competent enough its a satisfying experience to get it done. I have spent 500 to 1000 hours to date and over £10k. The cost can be brought down with secondhand parts (LS1, LS2 etc). Don't fit a LT engine they are old tech and give less power and are heavier.

I also have a 330d 3-series and agree with the others that may be worth a look as a unique conversion. Mine give close to the torque of the LS3. It a heavy engine though.

Hummm thanks for the reply's guys, Its a project for the months when im on leave a Diesel sounds like a really good idea torque is the bit you really want although i wonder if an X5 engine would fit! :P

Whatever you choose, the stoneguards will fit either :ymdevil:

Anything is possible with a bit of imagination and determination :watching:

Love the idea of a 330d lump in a zed. Somebody do it and write some instructions :computer:.

but the 330d wouldn't sound like a V8!

Blimey old thread revived. Doesn't look like Luke has been on in well over a year so doesn't look like he took the plunge.

I clearly have far too much time on my hands if I'm googling "Z3 small block chevy".

I need it to stop raining and warm up a bit so I can play cars and planes again!

If you start now you might get it done before next summer. A little winter tinkering as they say...!
I can't think of anything wrong with a V8 rumble coming from a Z3.

I'm not pulling a perfectly servicable 2.8 out!

but if I should stumble on a dead 1.9.......................

and a Rover V8................
