I have heard lots of complaints about oem parts. Now let me tell you. I have had a quote to replace a door mirror on my wife's Peugeot 206 CC. Are you paying attention? £364 fitted. I will never complain about the price of Z3 parts again. I am fitting a pattern part to save money. The £364 does not include painting. That is extra. But it does include an extra piece of wiring (at £64) as they have changed the design.
I wish I had never knocked it off in the first place!

The price of some parts does seem ridiculous Frank, and other parts you need to ask twice as you as sure that a mistake has been made because they seem so cheap. I suppose parts like mirrors etc are common parts to be replaced by owners and are maybe classed as parts that they can make easy money on?

Frank - I agree... I've had all sort of cars from premium brands to more ordinary stuff. The premium brands cost a little more than (say) Fords, etc, but the real problem is with parts from any manufacturer and the prices quoted..

For me I go for manufacturer parts where quality might count (the bits that are subject to real wear or tear, where safety could be involved or where you can touch / feel it), but otherwise find after market parts do just fine. Sopers of Lincoln do a great discount service (link on here somewhere) that helps reduce the difference.....

I always remember having to have my company Audi from repaired. They charged over £100 on the invoice for fitting a new grill. When I looked later all I could see holding it was 6 little screw fixings lol... Glad I was not paying the bill. Main Steallers are just that... Shinny showrooms have to come from service and repairs as we don't make money out of selling cars.. Honest ...

TBH Frank it would make me wish I'd never bought the car in the first place.:ymdevil:=)). Modern motorised, heated, colour coded and folding mirrors on any car are a bloody nightmare.:(

Tony.

Ah, but being of superior intelligence, I bought a pattern one and saved a bomb. Guess what it didn't fit. At some time they changed the wiring. A new loom bit is £67. It looks like I shall be re wiring the plug, or
having to sell my 1997 Z3 2.8 auto with 85,000 on the clock to raise the money to buy an oem door mirror for the 206 CC!
