I did not take the hard top off for about three years of ownership......
Closet coupe driver.

Do the aircons work well in these Zeds?

Saw it happen on a Merc (not mine) with all windows and sunroof open driving many miles in a hot climate. The AC system became 'over loaded' and went into 'self destruct' mode.
Read the manual, you should always cool the car down as much as possible, then close windows etc and then turn on the AC and as soon as it is cool enough, set the system to recycle the air within the cabin.

I am concerned about feeding from the blank beside the spot light as it might be too low, ill have a root around the area and see where I can pick up a gap, hopefully I can get something around the kidney grill

That's why I was confused I said Top up air con on, I wouldn't run it with the top down any more than we like guests in our villa to have patio doors open with A/C running for the same reason.
