Eddie zeders right you could spec what u wanted when you ordered an induvidual, for instance I know two cosmos black individuals , one specked up to the hilt , and the other not at all , it all depended on what u wanted and how much u wanted to spend.

I originally put in an outline order for a Cosmos black with red/black leather but when I saw the brochure for the new facelift model I said I want that car, the rest is history.

Hi

Having spent many hours looking for individual model Z3's on the interweb, I can give you some detailed information.

Mrscalex is correct on the three types of Individual models.

So it seems you can have:
  • An individual edition - Fuji Green, Dakar, Mora, Orinoco etc
  • An individual car - because it has key optional extras, apparently a roof for sure, possibly seats/extended leather
  • Lots of other optional extras - nice, but doesn't necessarily make it an individual.
Quite how the black engine bays tie in we're not 100% sure. But I believe all individual 'editions' have this and seemingly some individual 'cars'.
The Individual Edition model can be identified by the under bonnet label having a colour and interior code.
Examples are:
1) @Mint label in post #20 having 336/5 where 336 is the colour code and the 5 is the interior code.

2) My Mora Red label in the photo below having 359/4 where 359 is Mora Red and interior code 4. Run my VIN through RealOEM and in the individual equipment, you will be able to see what interior version 4 included.

Decode my VIN number and you will see the following codes that identify it as an individual edition car:
Colour: SONDERLACKIERUNG (490) = individual exterior colour
Upholstery: SONDERPOLSTERUNG (Z1XX) = individual interior
S938 Individual series = Individual edition model
S940 Special equipment BMW Individual = some other individual equipment has been specified by the purchaser.

Individual Car
These cars individual stickers do not have the colour and interior codes (XXX/I). They only have one or two individual edition attributes and these can be found by decoding the VIN number.

Examples:
Post #9, Mrscalex, LK15729, S940 Special equipment BMW Individual
Post #12 Devon Z, LG71379, S940 Special equipment BMW Individual
Post #19 Jimmy Weston, LE91181, Upholstery: SONDERPOLSTERUNG (Z1XX), S940 Special equipment BMW Individual

Black Engine Bay
Scanning though the large number of Individual model Z3 photos I've collected (not just Mora Reds), It would appear that the black engine bay is only on the Individual Edition cars. Individual cars all had a tint of the exterior colour in the engine bay.

Hope this helps

Murray
