BMW AUC Z4 retested and returned !!

Appalling!

So, did this car have a full 12 months M.O.T certificate issued as you bought the car? If so, then if the front shockers are really that bad it should be reported to the DVSA.

Tony.
yes 12 month MOT .. a BMW approved car !!!

It is shocking how bad the car is. If the car is as bad as BMW Cambridge say it is, BMW HQ need to know about it.
BMW UK have a copy of the report.. and are on the case. I hope to get a full refund today + cost, flight etc..

And do what exactly... ?
If BMW were to investigate the dealer they can be stripped of there franchise mate. Happened in Mansfield with our local Renault Dealer years ago.
All franchise dealers are answerable to the manufacturer, that is what is supposed to keep them in check though now days it rarely does, one of the main reasons I quit the industry.

I would want compensation for my wasted time as well. I would not have anything to do with that dealer again and hopefully BMW HQ nail there arses to a wall

I would also pass the report on to trading standards especially if there is no offer of compensation.
The fact they accepted your rejection of the car without an opinion from elsewhere is telling. Sounds like the DP at Cambridge might have told them they had no option.

Push to get a few years free serving on your new car at any dealer of your choice. The cost to them is peanuts compared to having BMW breathing heavily down their necks and the result of bad press here and elsewhere. They’ll blame it on an administrative error and behave like they should (for a while).

Why so shocked? Why would a BMW dealer be any different from the rest, (and please don't anyone use the BMW are a premier brand line, the manufacturer has no real impact on the quality of the actual franchise, in fact in many cases the manufacturer can cause some of the issues) I've had new cars every 2 to 4 years since 1997 and varied makes and from my experience main dealers are not that good, some better than others but as a whole they are shocking.

Which is why I said it's more important that the M.O.T. issue should be brought to the attention of the DVSA regardless of BMW itself.

Here's something minor but interesting ref main dealer / MOT My current car is a 14 Mazda 6, the headlights have never been great, always seemed to low so I asked Mazda at service to check them, nothing wrong with them sir was the reply, I subsequently complained probably another 3 or 4 times then gave up. Beginning of Dec the car went for its MOT (independent garage) Tester came back with a all OK. Oh by the way he said, I have adjusted your headlights, they were too low!!! I now have good headlights on a car that will be returned to the leasing company in about 2 weeks

I would say that without fail every car that I test for the first time the headlights are aimed too low. Obviously never checked properly on PDI, just that they illuminate.

Shame the dealer didn't check them when asked though isn't it

Absolutely it is mate. Very poor service I think.:(

Tony.

I suspect that because dealers don't do MOTs they don't have and won't buy the equipment to test headlight alignment - they simply check against a wall and anything close to ok passes. CBA to test them properly.
The freelander failed last year when I had told the dealer to set the adjustment prior to the test because I knew it was out. Instead they let it get a fail at the MoT centre and let them adjust them. Not amused.

I don't know of any Dealers in Lincoln who don't do M.O.T.s Ian, did you mean in a separate department maybe?

Tony.

They all do them over here, my mate Robs van goes to the Merc dealer and his payment is a bottle of whisky for the director ... ;)

SSSSHHHHHH. Don't you spoil my perks ;)=))=))=))

My Mazda main dealer does MOTs they just cant be arsed half the time to check things, told me once that my wiper blades didnt need changing even though I had cut them to make sure they did, that caused them some severe embarrassment when I collected the car and I asked to speak to the service manager who was also adamant that they had been checked and were OK ....... until I showed him the wipers. Total tossers.

I have not yet met a main dealer that I would trust. I bought my Zed from Hexagon, a very well known name. as with any approved used car, it came with a years MOT, this was obviously done with a sharp pencil. The first time I used the windscreen washers, the passenger side did not work, I checked it and it was the well known problem of a leaking check valve, easily fixed. As soon as I got the car home, I gave it a basic weekly check and all the tyres were about 7 psi down.
The first MOT, a year later was covered by the warranty. As hexagon is about 50 miles away, I got it done by my local main dealer. They regisrered it as a fail due to the fact that the previous owner had fitted blue tinted sidelight bulbs.
