Just returned the white Z4.. after 7days of ownership.. AUC controlled car purchased from BMW Glasgow, things just did not feel right.. so I had it tested at BMW Cambridge.. the £99 inspection. Results: Over £4000 of work required !! this was excluding the water leaks from the roof/screen area. Both front shocks were leaking.. so would fail an MOT.. no fuse in the radio antenna amp!! 4 pages of faults !! So the car was collected by BMW Glasgow and I should have the cash back in the morning.. so I hope the new Z4 3.0i sdrive M sport Highline is OK.. shall I have it tested at Cambridge BMW ??

I will scan the report tomorrow..
1) leaking shocks on front NS/OS
2) Rear brake disks pitted and corroded and scored
3) both rear tires below the 3mm AUC standard
4) Rear demister, top section faulty
5) Fuse missing in diversity unit.. so no radio
6) Boot cover, that activates the roof, hinge missing other fractured
7) roof leaking.. water from both sides where roof meets screen
8) Battery will not charge above 40%
9) windscreen wipers .. exhausted
and more !!

Very hard to believe a BMW dealer would send out a car with both front shock absorbers leaking at all, let alone to be bad enough to fail the M.O.T. test after only 7 days? I would hope that BMW UK will be looking into dubious varied standards between two of their Dealers.:(

Tony.

yep 7days

How old was the car, and what mileage?

Tony.

Jesus! That's an expensive list of defects from a dealer.

Shocking!. I do see cars with failed shock absorber seals on cars not as old (Taxis), which have to have an M.O.T. test each year from new, but always with higher miles. BMW should really be looking into this I feel.

Tony.

The guys at Cambridge BMW advised me to reject the car.. death trap !!

I would agree Andy, unless it's simply one dealer trying to get "one up" on another dealer, wouldn't be the first time.:(

I would find that VERY hard to believe. You got any pictures of these defects?

I'm thinking somebody could be stacking shelves at Tesco for something like that, especially from a marque such as BMW.

Could be but that's still an expensive list.

So, did this car have a full 12 months M.O.T certificate issued as you bought the car? If so, then if the front shockers are really that bad it should be reported to the DVSA.

Absolutely agree - a car dealership is only as good as the expertise and performance standards of its employees at all levels - every car dealer cuts corners to maximise profits!!
