Bloody Pot Holes

I wonder how that hole compares to baxters hole =))

Good god that's a crater not a pot hole, our roads are in a disgusting state. With 19" rims and such a small tyre wall you had no chance!
When I hit one, (not that size), it caused a small split in the rear wheel that I had welded but it still weeped air so in the end had to order a new rear from Alpina, they are not a cheep wheel i'm afraid. I really hope that it can be repaired for you and no other damage is done! I was told after I did it that if you claim to the council you should provide them with a measurement of the area, then place a batten across the top and measure the depth. taking photos as you do and providing the council hadn't sprayed a white paint mark around the hole they should take responsibility? Eventually!

A hole in the road, outside what looks like a caravan park.... Surely there's a white van, some guys in a white vests who are handy with a shovel and a drop of Tarmac?
Hope you get it sorted bud, was you counting your winnings instead of watching where you were going? ;)

I think to cut costs they are digging up tarmac from some less well used locations to fill holes elsewhere. Only they've forgotten to do the last bit....

Just noticed the rear tyre has gone flat too so looks like at best the rear tyre is damaged too, hope the wheel is OK

No to make it worse we lost at crib too :(

Just seen this Niall. Bad luck let's hope the council pay up

Hopefully your wheel is ok bud, if not fingers crossed you might get a whip round from all the concerned well wishes. But remember I took the p!@s so you won't get a penny from me ;) xx

Such a shame Niall:meh:. Read somewhere that the tarmac finish in this country does not stand up to the weather as well as the EU's because ours is softer and better for braking on, theirs is harder wearing so doesn't break up so easily.( resists the ingress of water which would freeze and break it up). Devil and deep blue sea syndrome for authorities. As @hard top has said, why isn't the RFL fee used for maintaining our roads as in Holland.????:grumpy:

Not a dig at you but that sounds like proper BS to me.
The ABS kicks in because of potholes and bumps here making braking distances longer than if were a proper smooth road!

My braking in mainland Europe has always been just fine. But inGreece they seem to use marble in the mix so mega slippery but in Western Europe where I’ve driven it’s fine.

We have massive craters ok the A2 here past Canterbury which is a major 70mph road. Every year same spots and take weeks to fix, justdont get why they cut corners on such a fast road every year.

Get a full assessment of the damage before putting your claim in.

In this part of the world with all the publicity about potholes government are still not addressing damaged roads in the main. I have never seen our road networks as bad!

Crib, is that the game with the little board and match sticks Niall? I used to play that with the Grandad when I was a kid over 40 years ago.

Because most of it is used to prop up the NHS and other services.
According to Amey (one of their fellows interviewed on local radio the other day) the ground temperature needs to be above 5C to make a decent repair. difficult at this time of year. I have not confirmed that statement, though.
Sorry to hear of the damage Niall. As someone else has pointed out, you need to photograph the hole with visible measurements. I have a feeling the depth needs to be greater than 4" to have any success in a claim, but that information is available in www.land :)

Niall, you definatley won't be able to make a claim then, as I suspect you didn't have anything available to measure if the pothole was over 4"
=))=))=))

I've managed to claim twice for pothole damage from the local council. Take loads of pictures and measurements and keep all receipts from repair work for the damage. It took me months but I got the money back for the repairs in the end. I hope you get it sorted.

The thing is, when they're skmming the road surface for repairs they put out signs warning of "raised manhole covers" etc. so why is that different from having bloody holes in the road, because after all it can have the very same consequences.

Tony.

But they warn you about one sort and not the other. Both cause unwanted damage.
