Time to resurrect this one, then. A few days after doing the rear brakes I thought I'd best check the fronts. Ooops.

Same problem, newer pads. Must be this salty sea-side air. Those are Mintex pads, not the most expensive, but not cheap old tat, either. Still, perfect opportunity to do something with these manky old things

Bit of flap wheel action brings out the inner shine (something to bear in mind if there's a toilet roll shortage)

Just got to get the discs nice and hot to match the colour :whistle:
 
Pads sticking in the calliper causes the lining to come off. The metal backing sticks at the ends and the the action of the callipers tries to “bend” them, making the bonding give way.

Luckily it was good enough to pass MOT just before I found all this, just goes to show that there ain't no substitute for a bit of regular maintenance. Think I might repaint the calipers a bit more often in future, at least I'll be guaranteed to find the problem again if it happens. Likes a bit of shiny, I do.;)
 
You are totally right in what you say about the mot when i am testing regular to have a extremely limited view of a number of components especially brakes as you have said no dismantling allowed do angles to look at stuff very restricted.

Think the extra cost would be the biggest complaint =)).

But also would mean cars would have to be kept in better condition if the test went that way as it obviously would be way more in depth .
Like everything there would be pros and cons to that.:)
