I have always had a manual shift car in my personal fleet, Ok not really a fleet but, My first car was manual, and so was the next one, and the next one . . .you get the idea. Two years ago I sold my 26 year old Acura Legend Coupe, Manual shift, because I was not driving it very much and thought it was time for someone else to enjoy the car. After 4 months without a stick to drive I found myself looking at Z3's totally by accident. Thinking it would be good to have a small run around car that was more efficient. Well then I drove an "M". I found " Maxine" my daughter named her, going with the M theme, and have been smiling ever since. She is a 1998 , the first year of the Z3M , and was well cared for. We have been driving and smiling for about 10,000 miles together and I am looking forward to 100K more. The M power plant, 3.2L 6 cylinder is among the smoothest running engines I have ever had the pleasure of driving. I have worked in the auto industry and have driven a lot of cars.
One of my friends asked me when I told him I was looking to buy another car, " you are buying a car made in America, right? " I smiled when I was able to answer Yes, North Carolina actually. At the largest BMW manufacturing plant in the world. All Z3's and Z4's were manufactured there through 2012 I believe.
She is my first convertible, and we have only been on the road top up a few times, darn weather. I would have the top down all the time but the wind blows a lot here in Utah so there is dust.
The handling of this car is just a blast, you can go through corners at normal speeds and feel as though there is no corner at all. That is what my wife said on her first ride. Or you can punch it up a little and enjoy the suspension design, and Smile
