As part of the 100,000 mile celebration , the gearbox oil and a tie bar replaced as part of MOT advisory was on the cards today. @t-tony was as ever a demon mechanic, mentor and true gent and I can only say thanks.

wish I had more flattering pictures but Tony was ferret fast around and under the car. Top chap

Indeed a top geezer. He has done a lot to help me over the last 3-4 years. Always a big welcome when I go over there.
Oooh and he drinks less tea than them southern jessies! :D

So, had a shower and calling it Saturday. Gary and Izzy here for tea a nice end to a good day. Really nice to see Simon again, been a while, we had the o/s rack end joint to change as an advisory item from the M.O.T. Having dropped the track rod end nut off the track adjuster was no more than a lump of corrosion but tried a spanner to be sure it wasn't going to come undone. Plan "B" , took the boot clips off and removed the track rod from the end of the rack. Over to the bench were the big vice has an anvil upon which I beat the s*** out of it with a 4lb lump hammer. Success soon followed and we managed to screw the track rod end off the track rod (19 turns!) A good clean of the threads and some copper grease had it reassembled onto the car. While this was going on Simon had changed his gearbox oil with little input from me. When we road tested the car,
the steering wheel was only very slightly off straight, so not too bad until Simon gets the tracking checked/adjusted.
After I'd been in the house and went back to the garage there had appeared a growth on the vice which said Foster's on it.;)=))

The offending item (on the vice) that is, and finally Simon with his Z3

Cheers for the beers Simon, very kind of you, and the nice man who told you I like Foster's ;)
