A local garage would probably only charge one hours labour,

Agreed Sean, and that's for a job which should take 15 minutes.;)

Thanks Sean as said I would have taken it to a garage but it can't be moved it's stuck fast.
But no problems I will seek out a mobile mechanic.
Just like to reiterate what I said many thanks who offered to do the work iam sure you are more than capable otherwise you wouldn't have offered you know who you are. Obviously no one in my area. I never expected a freebie as I always said any expenses incurred I would foot plus tea and biscuits.
Moving on I will get it done.

If you are competent enough to do that on your own car Rob you are competent enough to do it on anyone else's car mate. No different to me doing it at work or in my garage for other members same a @Lee does. I would certainly be happy to do the job for Tracy but it would not be for free as I would use a fair amount of fuel to get there and back. I think that is also Steve's point?

Tony.
It's not really about being competent. It's just there are different risks with someone else's car. E.g. Tracy implied she didn't want to swap the discs or pads. I'd find it difficult to go ahead with that job if I felt changing was sensible.

Anyway, don't want to say too much and put others off helping. I hope someone can.

I typically spend several hours a week giving advice via the phone and email. Talking people through procedures. Finding the right parts for people. But for me personally that's how I like to help, i.e. hands off.

Others are different and happy to recognise I might be being over cautious.

Hey mate, totally agree if that's how you do your helping, I do that too. All I was meaning was what I said and you are, obviously, capable of doing those jobs IF you want to. As you well know I don't mind giving up my time to help others, repairing or looking at prospective buys, we all help out Rob. Keep up the good work mate.;):)
