Beware overhead active traffic mgt speed limits

The Overhead cameras are extremely active, I see then going off all he time in the oppersite direction. Very easy to gain points nowadays. I travel 2500 miles a week and have taken the philosophy of sticking to the speed limits regardless of how ridiculous it may seem at the time. (There maybe the odd exception in the zed :D) Better safe than sorry.

Agree entirely. Let your head do the thinking not your right foot.
I don't see the point in gambling where the limit is especially where there are cameras. Easier to stay inside it and not have to worry. Then go and have fun elsewhere.

SPA Francorchamps, Nurburgring, etc...

I did a speed awareness course after not noticing the dual carriage way was only a 30 limit rather than 40, I was doing 37. The instructors were very sympathetic to those, who like me, had extenuating personal circumstances. They were quite clear that in most areas the speed limit tolerance is 10% over + 2mph.

We will all be in driver less cars before long so just sit back and relax! Be a laugh though if it got a speed ticket because of an onboard
computer error, who would then be booked I wonder???

its getting to a stage were you could get the 9 point in one day, it about time that the points were dropped & you just got a fine as all they want is the income

as all they want is the income

As do the Insurance companies, why else would they put up your premium by circa £25 ( each car you drive, two for me) each year for as long as the points stay on your licence?

Tony.

I've done some quotes online, seems 3 points does not makes noticeable difference in online quotes.

Must say I get tired of people moaning about speed cameras, saying they are just there to make money etc ,etc. Fact is they won't make a penny if nobody is speeding. Touch wood, so far they haven't cost me a penny after 50 years driving. Yes,I must admit 'a little' of that is down to luck!
But, by and large I try to stick near the appropriate speed.
As Fletcher said in Porridge, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime".

Absolutely agree there Garry, if you go on the course with an open mind you can learn a lot. Our instructors, one of whom arrived on his large motor bike, were very good at getting reaction from us too. The man sitting next to me was also a van driver. As regards the course I actually enjoyed the experience and I think becoming an instructor is something I could do.

Tony.
THE FOLLOWING FORUM MEMBERS NOMINATED FOR INSTRUCTORS:
1. @t-tony for safety instructor.
2. @TaffZee for speed instructor.
3. @miller1098 for donut instructor.

Frankie, why did you mentioned me in the same text with prison?
You know something that I don't know?=))
@hard top quote: "Post Brexit mate, you are going to prison......
When you get out, get yourself some Polish plates........:D".

@Zeti , it was the second line that caught my eye. With the way everyone was complaining about foreign tags and registration and insurance not getting penalized, you might be in the perfect position to offer registration and insurance from your country to forum members so they don't have to worry about the consequences of speeding tickets. Frankie

Question
why would any 1 who owns a z want to get where there going fast i want to tottle about
looking good & letting them all see me smiling enjoying my self singing my my daft head off
if i wanted speed i,d use the bike

it would be a profitable idea if the registration of a Zed , in my country, it will not be such a pain in the a..!
In order to stimulate new car registration, for second hand car there is a tax according to age and Euro polution norms, which for a M44 1996 Zed goes up to 1,800.00 eur , and for a 2.8 1998 to 3,500.00 eur !!!
So , no chance of a business!:( This is the main reason that only slightly over 100 Zeds are registered in Dracula's country! :arghh:

well, i wouldn't exclude to pay 3k eur to get immune to uk traffic laws. But likely this wouldn't work :) I think all car stuff in EU linked to residency, not nationality or country of registration.

Its not the speed cameras its where they are positioned, I think they are a good idea in built up areas where pedestrians and the like are. A lot of once 60mph roads have suddenly become 50mph or 40mph for no apparent reason and the new restrictions are quickly followed by a speed camera. And please don't tell me its because of the accident rates on the road because that just doesn't not hold water if you look at the stats.

Frustration is one of biggest cause of accidents, sat behind a car doing 30mph on a 60mph road for no good reason, for miles and miles, and the driver to pig headed to pull over and let the traffic pass, happens all the time in my neck of the woods, and even the most level headed driver is forced to take risks to get past these Road Hogs.

Driver (of car in front of @TaffZee ) : Hey, look who it is driving behind us!

Passenger in the same car: OMG!!!! It's JIMMY!!!!! You're driving 'way to slow for him!!! Are you going to pull over and let him pass?

Driver: You know, there's a speed camera 6 miles ahead of us.

Passenger: So? What about it?

Driver: That new speed camera has only been there for 2 days. I bet he doesn't know about it............. I'll pull over for him.....................in about 5.8 miles, heh, heh, heh!! By the time we get there and pull over for him, he'll go like a bat out of hell!!!!

the end of the story: I've replied them admitting offence and checked box indicating i am up for speed awareness courses.

and, voila, I've got invitation to the course! Well, it wil cost me hefty money, as apart of £100 of fee i have to take day off, which will cost me ridiculous amount of unearned money. You know, we, contractors haven't got paid day-offs.

but in long run this well worth! Still clean license!

and i must say - i was entirely deterred from speeding by this case. Poor zed didn't go faster than 74 since i've got first letter! And also I've bought smart speed camera detector device, and according to it there is plenty more cameras we all can imagine!

Can you not attend the awareness course after work, in the evening like I did Peter, or don't they offer that?

Tony.
