Picked up a cheap z3 but want a little better sound than stock. Any ways other than spending 1/3 of the cars cost on a eisemann exhaust? (I also don’t want the car to sound like a riced Honda civic)

I have a full stainless steel system on my 1.9 ( was on it when I bought it in 2017) …. Still in good condition and makes a great sound and legal .. although it got an advise on an MOT as not a std exhaust🤬🤬…..

Easiest way is to replace the back box with the largest (in volume ), straight through stainless box you can get in there, preferably 2 in 2 out. 2” is fine. Y piece on the entry, the increase in volume will slow the gas allowing all the high frequencies to dissipate without being too loud.

My car came with a remus back box, not too loud but sounds quite raspy. Worth keeping an eye on Ebay for a cheaper used item. I prefer the look of the twin pipes but I guess the big oval is period correct. It does also have a high flow car in the below video but I don't think that made a great deal of difference to the sound.
