Beached Whale in old Hunstanton

There has been mention that there was six in the pod, so maybe there are still two left somewhere. They can't all be ill, it's almost like they have committed suicide??? It's bizarre.

Sandy
The geography around there might not help. Surrounded on three sides by sea. Try one direction then the opposite. Might simply have been confused on how to get back to deep open water. Its possible they've been trying for days to escape back to the North Sea. :(

That is so sad, to think that they have been struggling to survive, but to no avail!!!:( Nature can be so cruel!

I agree, HT, but all four at the same time!!!!!?

Was told along time ago that sick and dying whales form pods and stick together as they no longer can function properly and as they breath air, they do not want to drown.

Seems to me that humans could a learn a lesson or two from them, in that case, HT!!

They made the 6 o'clock news on Sky earlier.

Sounds right Mike. We were told in NZ that they still have a painful death, as their weight presses down on their lungs and suffocates them.
Very, very sad either way:(

their sonar doesn't work well on shallow sloping beaches, so the wash isn't a great place if you are a whale.

they are also "social", so don't abandon one of their own that is in distress. Hate to see it but it is nature. Only a tiny percentage do it, so we don't need to worry about the species.

Poor whales :p
It's horrid to see this happen to great creatures :(

Another whale has died at another Lincolnshire beach, so that makes five now.

What with white wine sauce :p

So upsetting to see this. I love to watch the sea life programs on TV and have a genuine soft spot for these creatures.
They have to be deposed of very quickly as they say (I don't know personally) once the carcass starts to rot the smell is unbearable to humans. I hope they deal with it quickly and give it a decent resting place. Very very sad. :(

I think the whale on Hunstanton beach will be quite difficult to move as it rests on the remains of a wrecked ship. So pulling it anywhere will be difficult as it will be torn apart.
Have noticed a change in the conversations at the pub, "Whale thar she blows" and "Aih Capt Ahab" the most frequently used phrases. Also antique shops are getting a lot of enquires about Whale oil Lamps.

Mike

Well it just shows the immaturity of the idiots then Mike. They obviously lead a very miserable life. Fools.
