Can anyone help me with some information and local knowledge perhaps regarding the 2 Lancasters currently at RAF Coningsby?

All the official guided tours are booked up until mid September but I don't really want to crawl around one, I'd like to see (and especially hear) them both flying. Obviously when the guided tours are in session the planes are static but I can't find details of flights, only dates when they will appear at various displays.

Does anyone know when they are scheduled to fly in and out of Coningsby?
Are there any recommended vantage points? I gather parking restrictions have been temporarily increased around the base.

If some reasonably definite times can be established I'd be more than happy to meet up with anyone else who is interested.

Cheers
Terry

Come to Lt Gransden Air Show on 24th August, Titan, not only will you see the 2 Lancasters, but the Vulcan flying with them.
You will also meet up with the majority of the EAC as we are displaying the Zeds there with the BMWCCGB club.

If you PM Zed Carer, he is a fountain of knowledge regarding that event at Conningsby, they are closing roads and loads of other restrictions, so Bill is apparently going to walk in from somewhere miles away. He is also coming to Lt Gransden, (which is in Cambridgeshire) and staying the night in an Hotel.

Thanks for the replies - esp the video HT
Unfortunately we can't make it on the 24th (otherwise I would have booked in earlier)
I was hoping to catch the Lancasters on one of their sorties in or out of Coningsby on a more informal occasion

Hi Terry, just heard on Lincs FM that Lancaster flights from Robin Hood postponed for today because of the weather. So I assume from that at least one of them is there at the moment. You may be able to get some info re the Lanc from Robin Hood?

Cheers,Tony.

Yes, I thought so too Mike.

Yes, we do need to have a wings & wheels section as most of the guys are just plane crazy!!!!

The EAC alone must visit at least 5 air shows a year and are still wanting more!

@board & @GazHyde what do you think?
James (board) is nuts about aviation.
I'm happy to create an interest section, won't take a few minutes to. Just need you guys to post stuff in there to make it worthwhile ;)

Give it a go! Gazza. There must be one or two threads that will already fit in there.

I have just found this on the members Facebook page about the 2 Lancasters etc...

The last two remaining airworthy Lancaster bombers will be flying into RAF Waddington later this month, accompanied by the Vulcan.

The once in a lifetime opportunity for aviation enthusiasts will be on August 21.

The Lancaster bombers, PA474 flown by Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and FM213 flown by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will fly in to RAF Waddington where they will be joined by the famous delta wing Vulcan Bomber XH558.

Accompanying the line up will be two Hawk aircraft flown by 100 Squadron from RAF Leeming.

Due to the huge amount of interest expected, RAF Waddington will be providing parking on the base for members of the public in the park and view enclosure

The three historical aircraft will be positioned in such a way on the airfield that people using the PAVE facility will have a vantage point to take photographs.

The aircraft will then depart RAF Waddington to display at various events around the country.

Tickets for the PAVE are available on the day only on a first come first served basis, costing £10 per vehicle or £5 per pedestrian.

RAF Waddington are warning people not to park on the A15 as this area will be designated a clearway for this event.

Individuals attempting to park on the A15 will be directed to leave.

When I was a wee lad, I remember being told how to spot the difference between a Spitfire and a Hurricane (The Spit and the Hump) the hump meaning more 'body work' behind the cockpit. I do not think that you would be allowed to say that to a child these days......

Not that i know of, Titan. We are all going to Lt Gransden to see them on 24th.
If no-one is going from here, try starting a thread, I should lots of people would be interested, they think others are going.
