My battery was reconnected today after the winter hibernation. My Dad did the honours as I'm out of town. He said the "hazard" lights started flashing (no alarm) on connection. He pressed the key fob to disarm whatever he had set off but nothing happened just silently flashing so he has disconnected the battery again.

Has this happened to anybody? Why would this happen? Is it some kind of "set up" process of the immobiliser?

Any experiences or answers appreciated.

Possible the switch for the warning flashers was on already. Connecting the battery made them come on.

That's the most obvious... But it was me that disconnected the battery a few months ago and I'm fairly certain they were off.

Battery not got enough charge maybe? Free stuff first, stick it on charge then see what happens thereafter perhaps.

Definitely not that Andy.. The battery has been looked after and topped up over the winter. It's tricky when I'm not there to see what's what.

try starting her up and runing for 10mins as sometimes it sorts its self out

I had this happen twice after the battery has been disconnected for some time.

Sometimes the alarm system can go out of sync. If you have the little yellow envelope with your hand book it contains a code that you can use to disable the alarm but when you reuse your fob it should work as normal. In your alarm literature or handbook can't remember which but it shows you the procedure.

Thanks for that, I'll get him to have a look at the handbook...Didn't get any alarm specific literature though. Yellow envelope??

Sry for late reply with my folder I had a small yellow envelope which has a card inside with a code. You use the code with the flashes from your alarm indicator. Basically it envolve counting flashes and turning you ignition on and off until you have matched your code. It's on the pre face lift alarm system.

My car is the face-lift version. Was the alarm system changed? If so anybody know why BMW might have changed it? I'm not sure if he's had another go at refitting the battery. Will tell him to try and start the car to see if it resets. Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone.
