Needed to move the Zed today …got in, turned the key…and nothing..not a even glimmer of life.
I noticed on the last service notes the battery drop test had failed..but as it was still cranking over ok I ignored it. Unfortunately in my idiocy I seem to have left the boot ajar for a few weeks so I assume the light being on has completely killed it. The current battery is an Oldham (do they still even exist!) 096 74ah. I guess anything similar spec will do the job but does anyone have any recent recommendations?
Thanks folks 👍

I replaced car battery on the Coupe back in 2019 which had been a bit iffy for starting necessitating using a charger/starter pack to get the car going. I checked the details on battery in the car, Bosch S4007 supplied by Europarts according to sticker on it. I had never fitted a new battery whilst in my ownership of 7 years up to that point so had to look through the spreadsheet I've compiled of all car history from previous owners and found that the last battery was fitted in 2009 by a previous owner, so not bad for 10 years!! Cost £81-95 + £25 + VAT for fitting back then.

It really does pay to check around as the price variations for the same/similar batteries are amazing. Using my car reg to find if I had the correct one installed, it proved correct. Europarts came up with £179.999 (4year guarantee), Halfords equivalent £98 and my local car parts guy Sewells in Billingham £76, with fitting cost of £0. (All 2019 prices)

The Bosch S4007 with 3 year guarantee I picked up from Sewells (the shop owner put car reg in on his PC which came up with this battery also) turned out to be identical to my old battery when I put them side by side even down to the Bosch leaflet attached to the side of the battery.

So check around to see what you can get, the local motor factor guy did have cheaper battery option - cheapest was about £43 can't remember the manufacturer. It all depends how much you want to spend.

We favour a YUASA silver. Not cheap at around £120 but hold charge well & have a 5 year guarantee. If you go for one of these make sure you get the one with the most oomph as there are two & they look identical.

Went for the Bosch S5008 in the end. Bit more umph than the one I have, but I do have an electric hood. ECP had this one up for £135 with a discount! Pays to shop around as bought this online from battery megastore - £81 minus a 5% promo code I found and that includes free next day delivery. ..don’t even have to go out in the rain 😁
