They should have sound deadening on the inside of the outer skin, which will be a strip of sound deadening material only a patch, if yours don't have it then all you need is an 8 x 3inch strip of flash band placed in the middle of the panel, and it will then sound like Golf!

Your door has a pad of sound deadening material stuck on the metal. If your car is before 1999 it will have a plastic sheet protecting against water getting on the back of the door panel and into the interior. After 1999 the sheet was replaced by a rigid foam liner, which also increased the sound deadening of the tinny door. When I was doing maintenance inside the door of my 1997, I replaced the plastic with the foam, and it quieted the closing some.

If you really want your door to sound "deeper", more solid. I've done something on a Ford Sierra years ago.
Me and my brother were into car sound systems a lot. And didn't like the outer skin of the door vibrating by the speakers in the door.
So we glued "roofing" on the inside of the outer skin of the door (I don't know if it also called roofing in English, it's basically what is put on flat roofs).
Than meant the door was a little heavier, but the sound when you closed it.....a phenomenal, deep, solid sound

Here is an alternative perspective, so bear with me.
My kids close my doors with enough force to push me out the drivers door (they get shouted at for it, but doesn't stop them). That makes a hollow boomy noise. What I've been trying to teach them is how to "close" the door properly.
They do sound clunky if you close them like you would a Vauxhall Astra. With just the correct amount of force behind the door and the mechanisms being in good order mine shut and sound exactly as you would expect a BMW to - and without the boom!
One of the biggest criticisms about the E85/86 Z4 is the tinny clanging sound the doors make on closing. Again, I was able to close mine without that god awful noise.
As I say, bear with me but if you get it right you lose the annoying noise

Guys, I find that if I keep my hand firmly on the front doors as they close they make a nice deep, solid sound - quality. If I have a light touch or just swing the doors lightly and let go the doors may not even close properly and that does not sound bad, but certainly not good. The boot on the other hand must be held until its almost in the closed position as it has a tendency to get away and slam [not desired] down with a quality thud. Same for you mob?
A spray can of undercoat works dual purpose, just don't close up any drain holes or the sloshing will kill you. Work carefully, it's a bi*** to get off anything it's not supposed to touch. JIM
