Avon ZV7 tyres?

I'm currently running Bridgestone Potenza's on aftermarket 18" split rims, but had always planned to swap these out for OME rims once a tyre needed changing. One is close to the legal limit & I just snapped up a newly reconditioned set of type 78's. These have Avon ZV7 225/45 R17's up front & Headway (?!*) 245/40 R17's on the rears. All the tyres have less than 200 miles on them so are as new. Its a 3.0 Z3 so I definitely want the same rubber on each corner to avoid going backwards through a hedge. My question is, has anybody got any experience of the Avons? I had some on a different car and they were awful, but weren't ZV7's. Obviously I'd rather just change out the rear's but will change all the boots if necessary.

I had the Avon ZZ3s on my 3.0 for a while and had no issues with them. Do you have a preferred tyre that you use, have used? The reason for the question is that if it gives you piece of mind, change all 4 to a set you trust and sell on the others and hopefully re-coup enough money to offset purchasing the 2 extra tyres.

It was ZZ3's I had a bad experience with, but these were on my MG ZTT. This is a heavy car & I think the relatively soft sidewall didn't suit it. My Zed came with the Bridgestones (which have been good) so I have no experience of other tyres on this car. If I don't get any negative feedback about the ZV7's I'll get a couple more & give them a chance.

Had a new set of 4 zv5's put on my old astra coupe I owned a few years back. Within a year / 6,000 miles the front ones had cracked to a very silly extent, the rears weren't too far behind. It's not until they were replaced I realised how crap it made the car feel to drive. I've stuck with firestones since with no problems.

Will not use Avon ever again, not even if they were free, they are death traps in my experience.

Don't sweeten the pill Cheddars. Must admit I was similarly unimpressed with Avons. Funny thing is searching the forum today for tyre recommendations, Avon ZV5's came up repeatedly as a good tyre for the Z3 & for curing tramlining. Anybody run these long term on a Zed?

Yes, me!........ but they are now no longer available (I checked), replaced by ZV7s,.But some may be lurking somewhere at the back of a tyre store.... I've been running ZV5s for 5 years, with absolutely no problems.

Bonzo.
