Yes unfortunately like most industries that were built up around uk have now diminished taken over by others.We had "Combine" , a poor copy of the Lego, on a bigger scale.
But the most wanted toys of the time were , guess?: the Matchbox made in England , by Lesney! I still have few models from the first lot: E type, Cadillac and Silver Ghost. Priceless! The most spectacular trades were done arround Matchbox serie, because after playing few days, you're tempted for another model from your pals.
After they made it in China, the details and the charm was gone away... Is just a toy to keep in the pocket...
