Hi all,
I thought I would make this guide as I couldn't really easily find anything similar on this forum.
This is tried and tested on my 1998 M52tub28 and verified using BMW wiring diagrams.
1. Pull the connector out of the radiator temp switch (left side of radiator when at the front of the car facing the engine).
2. Examine your wires (this was mine)
3 wires - Brown, black/green and black/white
I have heard of other colour wires but it seems the brown is consistent. The process will work the same.
3. Switch ignition to P2/ full and use a small piece of wire to bridge the brown and one of the other pins. This should activate the fan on one of the speeds. Then try the brown and the other pin. This should activate the fan on a different speed. There should be a distinct high and low speed.
Do not worry about shorting anything, any combination of these 3 pins are safe. Source: I found on another forum and then checked the wiring diagrams and then tested it myself. Any combination is fine.
4. Plug the connector back in. All done
Hope this helps
