That's something I need to try. Never had the guts to trust the electronics to do that hill-start malarkey. I suppose 35+ years of driving it's hard to hand over to some software engineer. Having been one for many years I have a healthy disrespect of things designed by me.
If the wheels are locked by the brake, how do they turn?
I had hill assist on my last truck and to be fair it was great. Bare in mind if fully freighted I was run in at 44 tonnes, it never let me down. Never had it on a car tho.

Bloody awful design. Jue never used it on ours, just held it on a hill on the foot brake and a quick switch to throttle and away.
I just see it as being a different way of applying the parking brake. I have never driven a manual Merc but can understand it might be like doing "the Okey Cokey" every time you stop on a hill. "You put your left leg in, your left arm out"=))

I always used to think that a roadster had to have a manual gearbox, but as soon as I test drove my Zed my mind was turned.

My next car, whatever it might be will have an auto box

At least they put a 'proper' hand brake in the manual 190E.
The foot (hand) break is just pull the lever and see what happens......

I have a auto 2.2 and specifically looked for an auto as i do a lot of driving through city areas. I used to have a manual but just get sick of all the work to drive it. Now it is relaxing and fun! It is a steptronic which I use almost every day mainly to 'coast' down hills to avoid the engine trying to brake the car [which I hate]. Oh, I still use the handbrake for hill-starts as sometimes they are steep here in Tasmania. :)

Cheers,

Now heres a weird thing. The car I saw on Autotrader wasn't there when I looked on my iPad this morning, but, when I looked again on my laptop later it was there.

Looks like there is something wrong with their website - they're not serving the same data for different devices.

Can you everyone else see it?
Doesn't have Zenon/Bi_Zenon as far as I can see.
How easy is it to upgrade? Anyone know?

For me it's all about the experience. Auto is fine for a commuter car but for the weekend has to be a proper manual. It's part of driving!

I'm still into power shifting and with the delay in clutch activation with the manual I'd actually think I'd prefer the automatic in sport mode. That's the biggest dislike I have with my car, the big drop in RPM between shifts. I know there is a solution by removing and replacing the delay hose but is it that big a difference?? Sorry to hear the car sold Ian, next one may be even better though! Good luck!! Jim

I find the clutch delay somewhat frustrating on Gail's car.
