Wireless speaker with "Alexa" voice control

Most excellent ! Excuse me while i spend the weekend under the duvet with Alexa.

(she is currently shuffling AC/DC)

Is Amazon Echo always listening?

The short answer is yes. Alexa is activated when it detects one of its wake words: “Alexa,” “Amazon,” “Computer” or “Echo.” You know the device is ready for a command when the outer ring at the top glows blue.

I’m guessing most people don’t know this, but — surprise! — you can listen to every command you’ve ever given your Echo with the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.

When I did, I was surprised to learn that some of my recordings had nothing to do with commands. There I was talking on my phone about the old studios I was selling. Alexa also recorded portions of a presidential debate. I am not sure why my real estate call was recorded, but one of the candidates almost said the word “Alexa.”
 
I've got Alexa on my Amazon Kindle :p
But I suppose it's different from the Echo :)
Are they worth getting @N4LLY ;)
They seam like fun on the advert ;)

Not sure about an echo but this devise has a button to turn off the mic'
 
I got an Echo for christmas and its handy for allsorts of things daily quiz , news Etc. The Music libary is great and it can control all the blutooth speakers in the house to produce music in different rooms and the garden.
You can integrate it in to many things lighting, heating, socket switching, voice control of the tv,dvd, Sky etc its all bolt on modular bits but i suppose a clever bit of tech for its price.
It does have a mute also and i've had no issues with recording anything other than whats been said, again as mentioned the app logs it all.
We are alittle behind with its function than Amazon in the U.S as we are still waiting for full voice control of fire tv etc but its due soon.
If you like tech its agreat piece of kit and if you want to lie in bed and ask Alexa to boil the kettle it comes in handy. Shame she can't make the coffee too!!! =))
 
Doesn't bother me the wife spoke to her the other day whilst i was watch wheeler dealers.The Wife said Alexa i want to kill myself.
The reply was "Here's the number for the Samaritans " =))
Alexa can be quite amuzing.

Totally agree.

Also have no problem with Google maps telling me i walked 9 miles last month :D
 
I had it on my desk at work yesturday. I work with a Spanish girl with a very strong Madrid / Spanish accent, Alexa did not understand a word she spoke.
Was hilarious =))
 
I use mine for playing Spotify through the AV sound system and I have a Tado thermostat that I can control the heating using Alexa.

The only problem I had is once it heard an advert on TV for itself which demonstrated its ability to reorder cat food. Mine then chirped up asking me how much I wanted to order?

Mind you the price of the cat food was that good, that with the savings made, I could have bought the required cat.

I since disabled the automatic payment method in the settings
 
Have you seen any video's with peoole using the simon says feature to prank?
You can use a firestick voice remote and she repeats everything you say some of the videos are sooo funny.
Hours of fun could be had with this feature :ymdevil:
 
We have the google home hub and its brilliant, we use it all the time, we went for the google as it uses google to search, Amazon uses Bing
