Audio replacement

Hi everyone, I am looking for some info regarding the audio in my z3. As most of you will be aware the standard audio system in the z3 is pretty poor and I am looking to upgrade.
The questions I have are:
- I want to replace both sets of speakers in the foot well and at the rear (behind the seats)
- Does any one know what size / ohms / watts these speakers are?
- I don't currently have door tweeter, but will the wiring be there if I want to install them?
I am sure these have been replace in the past, has anyone got some info on what they used
My z3 is a second cor that generally gets used on my days off and weekends so cost needs to be sensible (if there is such a thing when audio is involved )

It's been replaced by previous owner with a Kenwood, but not sure how good this head unit is. I was thinking of changing the speakers to see if there is a big improvement, if not the head unit will be changed.

I've got a Sony mex 5100bt.
Apart from a lack of base I think it sounds great, I have tweeters already in.
I suppose you could get front components with tweeters and some decent rears for less than 100 and see how it improves.
Do some research see if the head unit is half decent

I also have a Sony Mex and replaced my speakers with 120w front and 80 rear, the sound is amazing in comparison to how it was before, I am also going add a sub and amp to get the bass.

I bought 2 sets of Hertz speakers in combination with a bass woofer.

I cut out the holes behind the seats to fit the Hertz speakers

Save yourself the hassle of tearing half the car apart to replace speakers. Even for just tweeters and midrange you have to open the door cards and they are a bi*** to put back again. Try first a nice head unit with decent output. You can keep it below 100 quid and experience the most noticeable improvement.

What did you go for? Unless there's something wrong with your speakers I think you'll be surprised.
I might upgrade my speakers next year but certainly isn't on the must do list

I did the HU first, it was an improvement but nothing like it is now with the new speakers, I have been playing with it the last few days and faded some of the power to the rears, it makes quite a difference to have the sound coming from all around.

I paid £3 and brought a "thingy" that plugs into the lighter socket and takes USB or microSD and transmits it via Radio to your head unit, you can change bass ect on the "thingy" and that improves sound on its own, it also has Bluetooth to answer your phone and even came with a remote , the reason is I like to keep the look of the original and people are not likely to rip it out anytime we pop into a shop with the hood down and also we hardly use it anyway because we spend most of our time just listening to the exhaust

PS there are many different types of module you can buy, some plug into the 12v socket and some come ready to fit into a switch hole and some come just as a board you fit behind the dash and both with a 12v input from any source

That's interesting @Dickymint I don't think I've ever seen one. Does it do a good job of controlling the bass, etc? I also want to put an original radio/cd or Cassette combo in my car. JIM

yes it does though I brought a cheap one as I wanted proof of concept before I spent out big money but its turned out to be better than I thought, it has extra settings like pop rock etc.
If you search "Bluetooth FM Transmitter" on ebay you can find something that suits you, I will admit i'm thinking about getting another one that's hidden just to free up the 12v socket
