I hope you all get a few quiet moments today for reflection.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

This famous verse was written by Laurence Binyon, on the cliff footpath overlooking Newquay in Cornwall. There is a commemorative bench where weary walkers can rest. I don't suppose anyone really knows the actual spot where the verse was composed but it really is a very peaceful spot.

Back in 2004 on May 4th I visited this "landmark" as part of BMW Motor Cycle Club National Treasure Hunt. This was the 2nd of 4 such places in Cornwall and Devon that we had to visit and take a photograph. When we left this place we headed to Winkleigh in North Devon to the next "landmark".

When we rode into the village of Winkleigh, I hit a badger on a windy country road and wrote off my bike and got me a helicopter ride to hospital with a lot of bruises and 3 broken ribs.

I'm reminded of my lucky escape twice every year, once on the actual anniversary of my accident and again on 11th November when I hear the famous words.

I will remember them

When I was a younger person I had the honour of playing the last post at our cenotaph. In Winnipeg as a bugler with the sea cadet band. Some years were blessed with good weather but I remember well the years were I stood in the freezing cold and snow remembering those that had fought for my freedom in those or worse conditions and those thoughts always got me through the pain of the cold and the sting of the wind. It was a true honour to.be picked to play to those fallen warriors of the war to end wars.

Lest we forget!!!! JIM

Indeed JIM.

As you said that's a honor Jim and I'm sure those very brave fallen warriors were looking down on you with pride while you were blasting out "the last post".
Good on ya Sir
