Asda announced they weren't opening on Boxing Day to give all their colleagues an extra day with their families. Rewarding them for their efforts in this difficult year, such a nice gesture on the back of handing back business rate relief.

The cynical may guess the real reason of not opening, is they know many folks wont be shopping as they will be spending it with family, as there's only a small window to do this until the 27th.
This is reinforced by the fact all colleagues have to take the 26th as either holiday or unpaid leave, very generous.

Perhaps they're aiming for Grinch of the year.

Nice one Toby!!!!!!! and there's me thinking I'm the only one who can see the woods from the trees. Your obviously well informed for such a young man. As a worker for 50yrs I've come to learn that very little is actually given away, cynical may be but when you've been brought up in a family of ten in the late forties/early fifties you'll understand a little more. Nuff said.

Roy.;)

Looking like Asda is the only one though?

Tony.

 :D:D That's you back on the Christmas list Roy - looking forward to a catch up at some point in the future

I know that of Aldi Dave, and totally respect them for it, and other shops that don't open. People don't generally need stuff on Boxing Day but just go out for somewhere to go and have a walk round.

I’ve got Boxing Day off this year 🥳
First time for 5 years 🙂
And I’ll have Boxing Day off next year too 🥳
But only because it’s the weekend 🙂
But then I’ll have to wait another 5 years until I can have Boxing Day off again 😖

My employer a local Authority has given us all one extra days holiday for working through covid. They also bought everyone a bacon roll on Monday. Unfortunately no one told me or the other members of my team and I am a vegetarian anyway. Apparently there was a vegetarian option, a bacon roll with the bacon taken out =))

I’m a vegetarian too , have been for 25 years 😊
But i think I’ve eaten bacon , whilst we were on holiday in Greece a few years ago at lunch time I ordered jacket potato with a salad , whilst I was eating I was thinking to myself, this potato tastes weird , it wasn’t until I see bits in the potato and see what it was , bacon , I called the waitress over and said what I’d found , she went to the kitchen and asked the chef what was in my potato, he said bacon , he said he had some left and put it in the potato, the waitress was fuming , so was I , the owner heard about what had happened and you could hear him shouting at the chef . I thought I was going to be sick 😂

Seems that one of our wonderful national newspapers has decided that since they can't really throw the normal Christmas pi55-up they're offering their staff a £25 payment in lieu. And to receive the cash they have to un-tick the box that will otherwise send the money to the newspapers' much publicised Christmas charity in aid of kids. So if you want your replacement for the party, you'll have to admit hating kids. Not a problem for some of us, I guess.
