Asda announced they weren't opening on Boxing Day to give all their colleagues an extra day with their families. Rewarding them for their efforts in this difficult year, such a nice gesture on the back of handing back business rate relief.
The cynical may guess the real reason of not opening, is they know many folks wont be shopping as they will be spending it with family, as there's only a small window to do this until the 27th.
This is reinforced by the fact all colleagues have to take the 26th as either holiday or unpaid leave, very generous.
Perhaps they're aiming for Grinch of the year.

As a worker for 50yrs I've come to learn that very little is actually given away, cynical may be but when you've been brought up in a family of ten in the late forties/early fifties you'll understand a little more. Nuff said.
