OK,

As you are aware members on here give up their time to organise great drives out often giving up a lot of days sorting routes and venues. It seems that a few regular people always sort the runs out with the help of a few who offer to lead groups.

So the challenge is..

Who is up for stepping forward to help ? Offering to lead a group would help make these days a lot easier to organise.

Take the New Forest this year 2018. I have the need for another two group leaders as numbers are increasing on a weekly basis. Being a group leader is really easy, you basically keep and eye on the route, often now on sat nav files and the group behind you. Experienced people know that you keep an eye for the last member of the group who should be running with his / her side lights on. You go at the pace of the slowest member of the group. If you feel the need to pull over to wait, then do so where it is safe to do. The last car also acts as a sweeper to make sure the group is running well.

The reason this has come about is that the numbers of a group that can easily be managed are 7 / 8 cars. Any more than this and it becomes a nightmare to keep together. So when we are reaching higher numbers we need more people to step up to the challenge and help the organiser. It would make it a much better day if this was all sorted well before the event.

So the New Forest.... 5 groups of 7 is only 35.. I need at least one more to step forward and also a spare that can help incase of any absent people. I can then add the people on the reserve list to the run. I am organising a dry run for this run, so please if you can, PM me.

As for the other runs on here, please do ask the person organising the run if they also need help with groups. It would make it a much nicer day for us all.

I am looking at adding all my routes to myrouteapp as it seems to be the best way to share.

Thank you.

Paul Gunter.

Thank you Paul, as an"organiser" I appreciate what you have posted. We try to have a "Dry run" each time usually with the added attraction of a BBQ at ours afterwards (inc. Lake Fish @Rha) I may need another group leader or two as well, will know more in a few months.:)

I have led a group a couple of times when I can remember the route but now that I have worked out how to download it to the satnav, I would be happy to lead anywhere if the route is avalable on my route app.

Totally agree Paul :scorecard: there is a lot of stuff to be done for a cruise and any small gesture is welcome i was certainly glad of the offer to help if needed to split into groups for last years Scottish run.
Led a group on last years Lakes run really enjoyed it leading a group again this year as well .:):)

We would volunteer but are struggling to make any runs this year as our dog sitter (son) has gone off to Uni. :(

@Gail it is really to try to get more people involved making it a better day for all. Fully understand about the dog’s too. It just seemed that the same people were running themselves ragged sorting everything out, so a little nudge was needed to bring along a few helpers. You can see from the comments above, that the people that run the days would appreciate a little sharing of the burden so to speak.

Look forward to seeing you at least a few times this year.

You can make your life an awful lot easier by making sure that everyone knows what to do (especially when something goes wrong).

All too often the "leader" just takes off and the rest are expected to know what to do, even though no-one has told them, or confirmed they understand.

A quick five minute briefing in the car park is not enough.

This is from "over the road", but it will save a lot of trouble if everyone on a drive follows its principles...

@Pingu I am not going to say what I think to your comment.. but I can honestly say you have not been on one of my runs have you...

I think a few might have other ideas.. The point of this post is to get some others involved and share the fun that can be had by organising a satisfying day. May I suggest you try and run one yourself too, it might open your eyes a bit.

Not been on one of ours either. I read that when I used to consider there was anything of much value to be gained from that site. My opinion still hasn't changed to be honest and your attitude is exactly why I and many others don't think it's worth frequenting. I agree there is much technical information on there for Z3 owners but very little in the way of social interaction.

I agree Paul. These runs take some sorting. We are usually lucky up here when i do the Peaks runs as most know the roads and are always willing to step up to lead a group if asked. Last year i did a print out of the groups with the leads telephone number on and stop post codes and folk @Paul Rice and @MAURICE THE MARTIAN still went wrong =))

@billz Funny enough the odd group leader has gone the wrong way on my runs too.. it adds to the amusement at the stops though. It would just help those organising these runs to have a little assistance.

I do agree though it is usually the same names that put themselves forward and would be good for other members to join in with helping out. I did this on one run and since then has led me to doing my own runs which can sometimes be very interesting especially when a load of zeds start driving around housing estates =))
