Hi

I know its an "out of season" question for you UK based folk, but it's "in season" here.

Sunday afternoon, we headed out to forage for Elder Flowers. Came home with 2 full bucket loads from a couple of plants on the side of a few back roads. This year, they are being turned into Elder Flower cordial and champagne. The cordial is great with soda water as a refreshing drink on a hot day. It is even better with a nip of Tequila when you don't intend to do any driving.

We are still drinking Elder Flower cider (7.8% ABV) from a couple of years ago.

Do you UK folk get into collecting Elder Flowers and making drinks with them?

Here is a photo of the 10L of cordial, ready for bottling tonight.

Well, once the Covid world gets back to something that resembles normality and people start travelling internationally again, My door is always open to Zroadster.org members that make their way down here. You'll have to take pot luck on what's in the cellar. There is usually a good selection of home made alcoholic beverages. Just plan on staying the night as driving will be out of the question.

I love elderflower drinks 🙂
But I do buy it from Asda 🙂
Its my favourite drink 😊
Its really expensive, I go through a bottle a week 😊

Never tried it but a recipe and how to make it would be good, made some elderberry wine many years ago but it didn't work out very well.
May end up as the best how to on the forum,

Post the recipe for the cordial please. I'd definitely like to have a go at making it, considering the price of the green bottles here !

Made elderflower champagne every year (the fizzy pop version no alcohol) for the kids when they were ankle biters, and copious amounts of wine for us. MIL still makes elderflower and berry wine in fact, I believe there is a bottle coming my way for Christmas. :drinks:

I have two Elder bushes in one of my hedges but never used the flowers

Free alcohol 😋😋😋😋😋😋

I’m on my way 😂😂😂

My mum used to make Elder Flower champagne every year when I was a kid ('40 s and '50 s), but I've heard little about the stuff until recent years when Elder Flower drinks have started to appear on supermarket shelves here in the UK. A bit 'niche' though, it's not a big seller I don't think, but I like it.:)

My dad used to make Elder Flower and Elderberry wine, along with other concoctions,
His wine though unlike the beer he brewed could be hit or miss ;)

Remember back in early 60s when I used to go to grandparents in Yorkshire Dales for my summer hols, the next door neighbour used to make elderflower wine (non alcoholic), the taste stayed with me to this day. These days I get my elderflower fix from cordial with lemonade, Fever Tree elderflower tonic (which I first bought at CarFest North in 2013) for my G & T & lastly I get Pink Gin & Elderflower Tonic Yogurts from Tesco.
