guys and girls.

Where my wife works a guy there has a blue 1.9 z3 as his daily driver and they got chatting about them. As I have a 2.2 and the 1.9.

He reckons 1.9 will be worth money in the future. I’m not sure as it’s a poverty spec version

Should I scrap it or keep it and do it up over time as I’ve used it for the panels. I’ve replaced the panels with rusty ones so it looks half decent now

People have a tendency to float over the larger engines, but generally haven’t driven a 1.9 to realise that they are just as good a car. They are almost similar HP to the 2.0 6cyl, but with less weight up front.

Sadly though, the 1.9s I don’t feel are going to reach big money as most want the bigger engines. So many 1.9s going for sub £1k, it’s hard to know how that part of the market will recover. I guess only as more get scrapped and there are less available.

All that said the Z3 marketplace is pretty depressed, even for the 2.8...

Hope so even though mine was decent when I bought it paying top end price I have spent another 1 k on it so I hope I will at least get my money back.
Trouble is people see them at lower prices but they are very ropey needing lots of restoration.
Hopefully there are people seeking a perfect one .
Touch wood she is now perfect only needing an oil service soon to keep the service history going shame to let it slide as it's been done regular all its life.

I don't think they will ever make big pennies. There are masses of them around so high pickings are available for those that want one. As @GazHyde has said the market seems very tough at the minute and nothing is falling off the shelf. There are several 2.8's on here at the moment that people can't seem to shift.

Understand. Just seems a shame as it is really solid structurally and drives beautifully and is a wide body facelift version

But I have 02 plate 2.2 sport that is more desirable in the future

Doesn't seem right Z3s have not gone up in price I mean mines now 21 years old other classics have really gone up in value, was rather hoping mine would. Obviously not at present anyway. :(

I doubt whether the 1.9lt will ever be a collectors item, and certainly not mine, but surely it’s not about the money it’s about the fun of owning it.
I probably paid too much for it, and have spent a fair bit already......but it makes me smile....and that’s where it’s value is!!!! :):):)

It's all about desirability and rarity Tracy. Unfortunately the 1.9 isn't as popular and BMW produced masses of them so both points go against them. Of course in another 20 years the cars will be worth more as a lot less will be around. The 3.0 already asks a premium as far few were ever built.

I paid £ 2,400 for mine as it was really the best one I looked at. I had a budget of 2 k max and they were rough if honest I looked at about 10 they had rust no service history bad roofs windows tatty interiors
Why I paid a bit more in the end having said that over nearly 3 years it's had about 1k spent on it but touch wood it's perfect now with FSH and just turned over 80k. Everyone that's seen my car says it's excellent condition even had people who don't know cars think it's a new model of car.
It' is about value come sale time one would not want to be to much out of pocket.
I still believe some are willing to pay higher prices for a fully sorted car.

Obviously bought the wrong one .:( we did toy with the idea of an M but we already have 3 other cars .
Intially my Z3 was only meant to be a runabout a couple times a week.

Any car purchased around £2000-3000 shouldn't be purchased with a view to profit but to enjoy. If after 3 or 4 years you decide to sell and you get your money back, happy days.

Mass Produced. So what? So were loads of cars, MG etc.
The problem is, you lot live on a little island called the UK with RHD, so your market is limited when it comes to selling, as how many people want a two seater convertable?

These are the asking prices over here: https://www.autotrader.nl/auto/bmw-z3/

sorry to be different to you all, but I have seen this time and time again being a Triumph TR7 owner, my TR7 was purchased for £3,000 ( only 18,000 miles from new, now worth £8,000.
But everybody still says it is not going up in value, agreed not fast.

I see the same happening to the 1.9 Z3, I got mine for £2,800 5 years ago, i think i could still get the same for it now, it has only 60,000 miles on it it think.

this is how it starts going up in value, by not going down.
