Just been reading all about the new MX5.
Not normally an instant fan of new cars but this one has me intrigued as to how it drives, looks nice, might change my mind when I see it in the flesh.
The power to weight seems good, almost 50 / 50 distribution of weight as well, The wind deflector seems a bit small.
I would have the 2ltr sport in Ceramic Metallic with tan leather.
But don't have £24k to spare

Have to say when you read into the engineering and thought about driving feel and interaction with the driver, the balance if weight to grip to power etc it's sounds a very interesting car to drive.
Would like a drive in one.

Wish BMW would do something like this. The new Z4 is a tank compared to the Z3/Z1.
The Z4 as it is today has it's place and looks a great GT but enthusiast want a sports roadster.

Engineering aside, the MX5 doesn't do it for me and never has done. No doubt about its qualities but I'm drawn to a car by its looks every time. Doesn't cut the mustard for me.

The first pictures I saw of the new MX5 were of a red car which I really liked the look of. This colour doesn't do it justice in my opinion. The quality of build and performance will be as good as ever. A different class of car, BMW ought to think about making a smaller lighter sports car to compete with this instead of wasting money on Mini monstrosities. Those really are UGLY!

I was offered a MX5 Eunos(import) a few years ago from a mate of mine, fantastic condition with low miles, had a test drive as well, drove ok but something about it, just didn't gel, said no. You know when something's right don't you, and this wasn't.

Mazda MX-5
Of course, what you really want is the all-new Mazda MX-5. We’ve driven the car at Goodwood and we summed it up by saying ‘it looks good, feels great to sit in, and, crucially, is a blast to drive.’ Check it out.

May be it's not too bad after all.

OP @Kit looks like a Honda S2000 (which isn't a bad thing at all).

Nice looking bit of kit.

Of course everyone on here loves the Z3 (or 4, or 1 or 8) but I think the MX5 has come along way in terms of appeal over the last couple of generations.

That said, I doubt there will be many Spurs Fans in an MX5 as they will all be rusted or blown up!

The MX5 is so well regarded as a great started track day car, despite never having driven one, I've been out on track in my Saxo and Clio 172 wit them and they seem easier to drive than a Zed. Wouldn't have fancied my Z3C's chances against a decentMX5 round the twisties.

I have to agree with that sentiment Andy, my little old eunos was like driving a go kart, it was as if it was on rails as a standard car. Mazda really did their homework on the original one and it has evolved through the different generations. In a previous post in this thread someone pointed out that the Z's are getting bigger and bigger. Time to start again with something more like the Z3.I reckon.

I think half the appeal for me is the " old school" look and feel of the Z3 for me it's the closest to a British type roadster without the downside of continually wondering when it's going pass out,the mx5 ,mr2,s2000,lotus there all the new generation, just don't have the same feeling,I don't want a car to be perfect I like the fact that it has character and some quirks.Theres not many cars that do it for me most of them just feel generic and you could be sitting in anything ,not with theZ I'm just lucky I can just about afford this one :)
