A huge amount of my wifes and my earnings goes on our children - 13,16,19 . We both work well above the average hours so they can have the best opportunities we can give them.
Forget just Uni's, having 3 boys at a grammer school and high level athletes has cost us tens of thousands over the last few years on school trips and training camps.
Our oldest is at Uni now for the first year - We have payed for his halls and the food is catered for the first year, He got a grant but we said he could bank it this year.He is paying the student fees and the rest of his living cost for the future via a student Loan.
My next son will go in 2017 so there will be an overlap where we again will support him as best we can.
Then when my youngest goes an overlap again.
My two oldest sons work as life guards to earn some extra spending money, they both respect money and my oldest is tight as can be:) and tries not to spend any money, he doesn't drink or blow his money going out all the time like most of his student mates who are skint all the time.

As for food bundles, he has my mum and dad twisted round his little finger, they take him health food products my mum makes all the time. They love going to see him and also help us out huge amounts taking him to training camps or races when we cant go.

A good way we have found to assist with Uni life is to also have him linked to our Amazon account where he can easily buy items he needs and get it delivered via there Prime service. Works really well.
I think like most people who have commented on here, we all do the best we can for our children, both financially and emotionally sacrificing many things so they can have as good start in life as possible.
I dont think it ever changes, my mum and dad have worked hard all their life and still help us out sooo much:thumbsup:

Ha ha I wish...

And that folks is all about being a family!:)

PS There are not enough tick boxes in your survey!:D

I left school at 16, went to art college to study graphics and advertising and was still living at home but had evening and Saturday jobs to pay for my nights out and give my parents some house keeping money, they did not need it but I felt that as I had left school, I should be paying my way.
Spoke to people who had finished art college and none of them could get any jobs in their chosen subject.
Jacked it in, packed my rucksack and went abroad.
Rolled into the oil & gas biz and saw the world and got payed for doing it.
As the old saying goes, I went to the University of life, leaving with no debts and getting a 'job seekers allowance'
If I had kids, I would make them do the same.

I used to help my granny deliver milk around our village before school in the morning and take a local farmers cows back to the field. After school I fetched the cows back in for milking and back afterwards. Saturday mornings saw me help grandad with the village milk round before breakfast, then, after breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings I helped him sell milk on all the local caravan sites. Did this till I was about leaving school age. Taught me the value of money.

Totally agree with you Tony. All us 40+ people Im sure helped out or worked from an early age to get a bit of extra money or just cos they were needed.
Its hard for young kids to get part time jobs these days, so many stupid bloody rules.
Just for anyone who has teenagers that are looking for part time work, If they can swim and you are happy to pay £250 ish for a life gaurd course most leisure centers are crying out for life guards.
Most pay Above average wage for teenagers because they struggle to fill the posts.

We gave my oldest son a place to live, eat, etc plus a small car so he could get home on weekends to work. He paid all his fees and graduated debt free and now runs his own business in Santiago, Chile. The youngest son left school, has a daughter we're raising , a house and another new daughter. We're always having to help him out though as he's working for a decent rate but we don't want him to lose his house as I'd lose my shop. We aren't rich but as my wife said recently we have more disposable income than ever before! JIM
