I’m thinking something that’s made not to clog up in unseen pockets and can be cleaned with decent hose, Zs are prone to clog dirt in the sills even without the use of mud flaps so maybe just maybe that’s what’s needed. Good sealer gun with appropriate sealer should keep things clean once mounted. Only probs I can remember was with reversing over kerbs and ripping them off, just bad driving. Let’s see how I get on, not looking forward to trying out what ever I decide to do, will hate trying my hardest to get it dirty down the muddy lanes. If successful I’ll post pics up,

I know my Z4 is fairly low mileage Roy but when I had the front arch liner out a few months ago I was amazed to see it was spotless inside the inner wing. Something we can perhaps look at between us.

Glad to Tony, I’d do anything to help stop the stone chip problem down 5he sides, have a few ideas I’ll share with you when I get started. The new front will be protected ASAP after spraying. Then I’ll deal with the muddy crap problem down the sides. Most modern car designs have the wings protruding at top to keep the tyres within.(MOT). This leaves the tyres sticking out at the lower edges, this is where the crap is allowed to be hurled up and the air takes it inwards towards the bodywork, design looks great but with extra width wheels and tyres there’s plenty of scope for crap to be thrown up. Won’t take much to stop it I’m thinking. Something small and subtle should do the trick. Won’t/ shouldn’t detract from the overall looks of the Z. Got to be worth a look.

Yes, the reason there is so much c**p up the sides of the car is I'd taken the mud flaps off the front of the Zed. Had a look behind and there was lots of stuff behind and has started the dreaded tin worm where there was none before:(.
 
Problem with mud flaps is there not taken off every now and again to check, goes with all other semi permanent fixtures, it’s called preventive maintenance. I wouldn’t go as far as to blame them, they’re obviously not fashionable but doesn’t mean there no good. When you take them off you expose the bottom of the wing which gets stone chipped ready for the tin worm but you also expose more of the outside paint work to stones not just to your vehicle but to others driving behind you. Drivers choice really, your either gonna have em on and have to check behind now and again or keep an eye on the wing bottom and the sides for chips. Know what I’d rather do, bit of preventive maintenance for me, the only flaps I wouldn’t entertain on road cars are rally ones. OTT in my book. If I don’t use off the shelf ones I’ll try making something to do the job that I can live with.
