I hope to acquire our Gary's old Laptop computer which runs Windows XP. Is this a good enough system to run the INPA system on please?
I have got it to run the Delphi code reader tool on and would like to use both on it.

Tony.

f*** me mate, that laptop deserves a presevation order running XP

Hi Tony,
XP will run INPA. I am reliably informed by @Perfectjake .
He’s one of those clever people that knows all about the interweb thingy!!!
Currently, he has an old laptop that I was given and is currently installing the INPA on for me.

I always thought XP was great to be honest

Me too Mike, when my mate put Windows 7 pro. on my desk top I did not find it easy to use for a Technophobe. I have overcome this mainly but it took a while.;)

It's hard to say without knowing the minimum requirements of the software and the hardware in the laptop.

Assuming that it's a laptop that is able to run some modern software (i.e. still being used to browse the web or do whatever with) then I should think it'll be okay to run inpa on.

I just use my standard Windows 10 laptop with a virtual machine running XP to run inpa and other legacy software off and it seems okay.

I can just imagine the face @t-tony has just pulled...

Plenty of refurbished XP laptops available for a 100 notes on ebay which will be fine, most of them will be ex-corporate high end kit so perfect for the job. But for the love of all things sacred don't start using it to browse the internet or you'll be quickly overwhelmed with eastern block brides and enhancement creams (before you get excited, they will all be cons and you will end up with neither).

No support or updates from MS anymore, and because a lot of corporates and banks still use it widely then it's still a big target for malicious activity. If you need to put stuff on it download it to a secure machine which is updated and runs AV, then copy it on to a memory stick to transfer. Then burn the memory stick after it's been in the XP machine.

That sorts that out then :wideyed::wideyed::arghh:

XP will work fine. also INPA barely needs any horsepower from a laptop so any laptop will work. however when running over usb connection I haven't been able to read the ABS modules and instrument cluster modules on some prefacelift cars. On the facelifts it reads everything with ease. Even reads our e39 535i (though for some reason all those error codes are in German so seem a lot scarier)

With the prefacelift zeds I think a serial connection is best... I've manage to obtain a laptop with said port, so when I get some time I'll sort out that one and get back to people.

I didn't realise I had started 2 threads so apologies peeps.

Tony.
