Any idea what this is?

@Nodzed and I were working on my car today and came across this on the exhaust back box. Any idea what it is and what it's for?

Looks like a bumper stop?

Vibration damper. Supposed to control resonance from the back box

It's a balance weight for the exhaust. I believe it stops vibration causing additional noise.

As Brian rightly said it is a Vibration Damper. You find them all over these days. They stop cars from shaking themselves to bits.

I don’t think we get stuff like that on the 1.9 lt .......the only vibration we get is the driver shaking in anger that the car doesn’t go fast enough and wishing we’d bought a 2.8

Used to be one of them on mine, took it off and didn't seem to make any difference. Wonder if that's a declarable modification for insurance.
