Well after taking my insurance out on the Z3 with Lancaster's for a competitive price, was not impressed after a month to be told if i cancelled the insurance i would owe them money, so took out new insurance for the Z4 with them to avoid penalties, this didn't impress.

Now there second black mark and a definite NO from me come renewal, charged me £30 to swop the registration number on my policy. Have had personnel plates on about 14 cars all together and never been charged.
I suppose these are what are termed hidden extras to keep them competitive come renewal. Well i certainly will not be renewing with them.
Good by Lancaster's :(

It feels like anything we do nowadays incurs a charge.

Had the same problem with Chris Knott, charged me to change plates on the M but Tesco didnt on the Z4 so one of many black marks against CK too.

Never got charged at Direct line, AA and for the last few cars Adrian Flux.

That’s strange, I’m currently insured with CK and changed the plate without any charge. It was within a month of taking out the cover though.

I was over 6mths in

TBH I think these extra charges are brought by the person you are talking to. That extra charge makes them extra cash/bonus maybe? If you're going through a call centre this can happen.

tony.

I did challenge the charge, the blame was put on the insurer they had put me through. Didnt believe it for a minute

Just renewed my insurance for both my 1.9 and 2.8 Z3s. Looked around and in the end it came down to Lancaster's and Hagerty's. In the end I went with Hagerty's and so far been happy with them.
Asked about admin charge for changing plates at a later date, and was told that there would be no charge. Happy days.

Vehicle insurance industry in this country needs a serious shakeup. Its a total pi55 take. How can something we are legally obliged to have be so badly regulated? Unrealistic costs, no agreed values (which I think should be mandatory for 12mths when you take out your insurance) etc etc.

Me too, I've experienced most of these issues with car insurance, not to mention the ludicrous renewal quotes we often get ! Normally a huge hike in price ,then if you tell them you are going to switch they can miraculously knock a chunk off the quote !
I think they just make it up as they go along, as someone said, you speak to one person at a company and they say one thing, but the next representative you speak to gives a different 'quote' .
The bottom line is just shop around for the best deal, but it's a pain in the posterior to have to do this every year or car swap.

Afraid it’s a fact life these days. Whether it’s car insurance, breakdown insurance, travel insurance, gas/electric bills etc you have to take a bit of time to shop around. It can save you a bunch of money.
These companies rely on people NOT shopping around and just doing a straight renewal.
Comparison sites really help, I use them all the time.
