okay, so I have searched and found what I thought was a resolution but still no joy.

The z3 was parked up over winter in the garage, battery and keys both went flat and unfortunately when battery was changed the car will no longer recognise the key to start or disable the alarm.

Now I have read location of the alarm module is behind the glovebox to disarm and place in learning mode to reprogramme key.

I have taken the glove box off, and found no alarm module! Any help/advice would be very much appreciated. Picture below.

Z3 2.2i year 2001 if this helps.

Tom,
Looking at your car's production year you should have the later alarm where the remote is integral to the key and not a separate fob (aka house brick) - is this so? I think they also repositioned control box post face-lift.

Re-programming for the later model is done from the key - have a look this for an example http://www.programyourkeys.com/BMW_Z3_Key_Remote_Control_Fob_Programming.html

Hi jonco,

Thanks for the link, I have already tried these. Tried again just incase, even called a guy out who says he can reprogramme the keys/unit, and he was claiming the alarm is in 'activated' mode and needs to be disabled before it can be reprogrammed.

Alarm goes off as soon as I try to do anything and for some reason the passenger door won't open. I am looking through the Bentley manual which has not a lot in it. Dreading but feeling that the BMW dealership is my last option
