Our Abbie called her mum this afternoon to tell her that she has received her “placement” at LCH in the Intensive Care Unit. She quite upbeat and happy for this as the rather perverse rational is that they have the best PPE in that unit.
On the other hand one of her best friends has been placed in the ward where drunks and drug addicts are put when admitted and sometimes when they get desperate they lash out at the staff. That is not a nice thing to have to go in and face at work.

Tony.

Well congratulations to her as she's obviously pleased despite your understandable concerns.

My other half has had almost 30 years of dealing with difficult people like you mention as a copper. I think if she had one piece of advice it would be always be nice to them however horrible they are. It sounds counter-intuitive but it's kept her safe. There's a line in the sand but for her it's further down the line than most coppers. Hospitals have security guards these days who will be posted onto difficult customers. And coppers often end up accompanying, particularly if they have mental health issues which covers quite a lot of self-medication admissions.
