An Awesome Day!

Good morning fellow Zs!

I had another fantastic session at ZedShed Midlands HQ yesterday courtesy of @t-tony and lovely Shirl: thank you for being such kind and generous hosts. You are both very much appreciated.

News on the unbearable noise from the rear of my car: over to @t-tony and @Mint to fill you in.

New N/S/R wheel bearing, totally worn out.

And how the bearing race should look.

Tony.

Nice to find it was just a bearing, we were sure it was coming from the middle of the car. Turns out my hearing must be as bad as my Dads :arghh:

They'll be nothing left to do but clean it all the time now! Have you done that exhaust yet?!!!

I suspect that the guy who fitted the bearing has moved/adjusted the exhaust mounting (even if inadvertently) but there was no noise from it even driving fairly hard. Seat bushes would be on my to do list if I'm honest.

What are the seat bushes, @t-tony?

Shall I ask the bearing guy to adjust the exhaust mounting?

Very nice to learn :)
I'm due to clean my car later today =)) The exhaust is looking very shiny, thanks.

No Dawn, Dave and I heard a vibration from the exhaust first time we drove the car but it wasn't there yesterday so all.is good. The seat bushes are what makes the drivers seat move when you accelerate.

Oh...do I order two? How many, please? I've got to go back to ECP with the diff bush so I could pick some up...
...I have a motor for the passenger side for it to go up and down and am confident, with another pair of hands to help, that I can help do this :) @gookah and @g8jka removed the passenger seat and tried to get the existing motor working and as you've guessed correctly, yours truly was there watching and learning :)

You won't get seat bushes from ECP. It's a job I've never done so can't comment on how simple or not it is to do.

OK - I'll ask one of the guys who break Zeds on here and will find out more.

Aceman sells seat bushes Dawn.

Hello fellow Zeds,

Off I went yesterday to have the tracking done on my car, following @t-tony and @Mint having fit a new passenger side front suspension arm - thanks again, guys. I pulled up and went over to one of the men and said I wanted the front tracking doing to which he flew into a spin and referred me to the owner of the business. Supercritical, he told me I had to have the front AND rear tracking done and we stood there arguing the issue until he said he'd know more when he had my car up on the ramp.

You can imagine how I felt when he declared, whilst under my car: "The rear isn't adjustable!". The two guys who work there then had to have a look, too. Crestfallen faced? Him, obviously. No such thing...I did, however, feel a certain sense of pride in the fact that you lot and ZedShed Midlands helped me out with explaining that my car didn't need rear wheel tracking.

I wish you'd been there! It was cosmic! And you've guessed it: no apology.

I had a similar experience yesterday when I took mine for tracking. As we all know on here, a standard Z3 does not have any adjustments on the rear and they didn't believe me when I told them. I said "Ok then show me how it's done". He couldn't of course but he was a whizz on the laser adjustment computer. Actually, thinking about it, I think my Zed was older than him=))

I had to laugh over what happened yesterday - they just don't know. It's this simple.

Pah. Young people today, eh? Imagine how they feel when I turn up with suspension that can be adjusted, they explain to me that it can't, and then they look underneath.
My car threw them, that's for certain - became the talking point of the garage. @the Nefyn cat what's your car?

Just a fairly normal Z3, but I've changed enough suspension bits over the last few years (only had it 6 years) that it seemed worthwhile changing a few more bits just to get it as right as I can. And it's nice to watch their faces when they see that things they say can't be done can.:) Makes this particular old fool happy, anyway.

For fellow Zed Owners who may be looking at how to change their cars diff oil, I'm intending to download photos and do a small write-up for us soon.
