I've just bought a new pair of door cards.. . The notable difference is these are the "airbag" type.(with the little tab)

Has anybody else replaced their cards with these airbag type cards? Any issues or just a straight forward swap ?

I don't believe my car has side airbags but I've read a couple of conflicting things.. ,

1) All post face-lift have them as standard.?.. I doubt this.
2) side airbags were an optional extra on anything post 98 .?

Has anybody ever retrofitted side airbags? What are the components and where and how do they fit? wiring etc ?

More hassle than it's worth maybe?

Anyone?

I wouldn't even want to go near retrofitting airbags.

However the door panels should be a straight swap

Not a mechanic @Uncle_Clanger by any means but unless you're well versed in airbags and there replacement I'd leave well alone and leave to a specialist. These things deploy at 250 milliseconds and can cause severe injuries, they have killed people before as they deploy with such force.

Just swap the doorcards, they are a straight swap. If you didn't have the airbags before then I wouldn't bother even trying to retrofit them.

I have the airbag leather panels in mine as I fitted them to my original doorcards, I originally had them off an ///M and wanted the leather to match the seats but the doorcards didn't have the extended leather across the top and were tatty so I swapped the leather airbag panels over. Not bothered fitting side airbags though, wouldn't go near them.

I would imagine its a whole load of headache as the module for the airbags etc will not be programmed to recognise them and you could end up with alot of problems.
The cards themselves should fit fine.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I'm well aware how dodgy these things can be and I'll just be fitting the cards.. Was just interested to see if anybody had attempted this and survived.

There are a couple of regular z breakers who sell airbags on so I thought somebody may have attempted it... Hope he didn't send them in the post though!

There many have been many who attempted the retrofit, but none who actually survived to tell the tale so no one will ever find out.
