Airbag light

Hi just bought z3 2.8 1999 Love it
But the airbag light is on
Is this a common fault

In a word, . . . . Yes!
You need to get a code reader on the car which should point you in the right direction to fix the fault. Where are you located Danny?, its possible you may have a local member who may be able to help.

It can be something as simple as a lose wire. My 2.8 1999 z3 had one come up after the passenger seat was moved. It was just a lose connection. It may even be that it's an old fault and the light can be put out with a code reader. A code reader is a good investment with the z3.

I have a code reader I will give it a go but the problem is I don’t want to just turn the light off I want to sort out the problem

If there is still a problem when the light is turned off it will come back on again. You may find a few faults on your code reader, delete them all and see if any return. Many faults show up on a code reader before the eml light is illuminated
