I matched the part number up exactly with the unit from the car. There may be alternative part numbers for it, or ones that supersede it. I don't know at the time if we checked all this info through realoem, I just went with the part number off the original unit. It's a straight forward job changing the unit (under the centre console) and if someone local can code it then £150 should more than cover the cost.
I just refreshed my memory of this by looking in realoem. I now remember when I did mine finding long part number histories for in theory the same part. Like you I didn't want to take any chances and waited to get exactly the same part number when it came up. I strongly suspect the module is not unique to the 2.0 (well according to realoem). And the real issue is the many part numbers/revisions for what is in theory the same box. Normally I wouldn't worry putting a later part in. But with electric boxes running software I prefer to play it safe so agree with what you are saying.
