The airbag light is lit on my Z4, happened when I changed the seats and had the ignition on when the connectors under the seat were separated ,so I think it just needs a reset.
I bought an air bag reset code reader but when I plug it in there is nothing on the screen just the preset 88. I have tried ignition on then plug it in and the opposite plug it in and then ignition on but its still doesnt work. Could there be a fault in the diagnostic socket? Perhaps better off taking it to a auto electrician. The car is on sorn and the mot has expired I was going to take it for a test but it will obviously fail with the light on. Any ideas?

The key has to be in position 2 for the scanner to work. Try that.

i had same fault on a z3 cheep reset tool & easy to reset but on my 2006 z4 had to get a professional with expensive kit to reset

Yes my car is at an auto electrician at the moment, he seems to think that there are two broken wires leading to the seat belt stalk, he is going to ring me next week when the car is ready. Cannot be a big job , four 16mm bolts to take the seat out and reconnect the wires, I have this uneasy feeling about his diagnosis and I am not very confident, this may be expensive!
