Welcome to the forum.

We need a little more information to be able to help you.
- what year is the car?
- what model is it e.g 2.8 L facelift?
- a photo of the old steering wheel and the new steering wheel.

Did you leave the battery connected or the ignition on when you did the steering wheel change?
Is the new airbag the same as the old airbag e.g. they are both 1 stage or both 2 stage? If you fitted a 1 stage airbag into a car designed for a 2 stage airbag, you will get an airbag light.

What scanner are you using to reset the light? Are you connecting it to the 20 pin diagnostic port under the bonnet/hood? What is the trouble code that is causing the airbag light to be on?

Sorry if this is a little overwhelming to a newbie.

Hi

Just realised that I've made the assumption that when you talked about fitting a sport wheel, that it was a BMW sports wheel with an airbag. If its a Momo or similar sports wheel without an airbag, then the airbag light will come up as the controller is looking for an airbag in the steering wheel.

There is a way to code out the airbag in the controller or to fit an airbag emulator, but I don't know what they are. Others will need to help here.

If there is no airbag fitted it's an MOT fail here in the UK Murray, so if that's the route he's gone down it's a potential problem.

Tony.

Yes I wondered about that Tony. There is nothing telling me where he is from. I guess he will get around to filling out his profile in time.

Like you said initially @Murray Wall need a bit more details.
You couldn't really cross a single and a multi stage bag the pick up plugs are totally different

Yes @Stevo7682 you are correct in the normal world of doing things right. I've seen threads on other forums where people have happily cut and spliced airbag connectors and slip rings wires and then wondered why things don't work right.
