No the drivers heated doesn't work and no it didn't have one before, the passenger heater works though
this may be your issue, heated seats may need to be activated in one of the modules. it might be easier to bypass this by disabling the passenger occupancy and running the heated seats from another feed.
does the passenger seat heat even when not occupied?

But the passenger heater works, not sure if it works when not occupied, I do have the occupancy bypass as it came with the seat, I might try a new one, I actually think the SRS module needs coding to take the seat.

probably does, the srs module will be the same as in all the other zeds but the coding will be different, its probably confusing the module, options like these can be toggled on and off inside the coding, there are not many switchable options on the Z3 not sure if this is one of them, but as yours doesn't have a passenger airbag this would suggest that this is one of the switchable options. (what is the bypass used for?)

The bypass is for the occupancy pad

As with any electrical product they may be faulty from the manufacturer. I would. Check the unit first so you aren't chasing some gremlin that doesn't exist. Perhaps in someone else's car??? Just a thought! JIM

here is a sample of the code, notice the second line down, it would suggest I can change the service interval, will have a look through mine and see if there is an option for heated seats,

will have to have another look at my trace file again this eve, i looked through it last night and couldn't see anything relating to heated seats which would suggest they are plug and play, there are options for driver and passenger airbag though, but there will be a problem here - if you allow passenger airbag would this not just throw another error code as you have no airbag. Interestingly though it does have a shed load of options for side impact bags, didnt think zeds had them, could the srs ecu simply be a re-coded E36 compact one. What takes the time is translating the code from German to English.
this did get me thinking though - if they are plug and play then would it be possible to just disable the occupancy switch, i think the bypass thingy you have is to bypass a faulty occupancy switch, im sure i have seen threads on here about these bypass thingys.
if you have no passenger airbag then it doesn't need to know that someone is sat in the seat, i always thought that was what the seat belt clip contact was for. does the code disappear if you put the seat belt in?

Thanks again for your input mate, I'll try and plug the seatbelt and give it a try, some Z models do have side bags

Heres one for you @littlefeller so far I have tried the occupancy sensor connected or with the bypass, as I don't have a passenger airbag do I need an occupancy sensor connected at all, would my old seats have had one for any other reason.

It shouldn't matter what they came out of mate if I leave the occupancy mat disconnected my car will never know, thats my logic anyway :D, I'll give it a try if I can get home when its light.

this was my take too, if no airbag then you shouldn't need an occupancy switch, the part that i find a little odd is you have an occupancy pad and a seat belt switch, so why does it need both, surly if you crash and you dont have your belt on then an airbag isnt really going to save you.
personaly i would try disconnecting the mat first and see if it throws a code, then we can work from there, if we can eliminate the mat (and no mat code) it will make it easier to figure the answer (it may well solve the problem).

the bypass is to get around a failed mat, a common issue with the zed, if the mat fails the srs throws a code and the bypass is used to get rid of it without actually fixing the problem, with the bypass the srs now sees the seat as occupied, but even without the bypass it is still sending a signal to the srs module which you dont need.

i think the coding error it is showing is simply because the srs is receiving the signal from the passenger mat and it doesn't match its coding ( it can see a signal that shouldn't be there or rather it doesn't know what to do with it)

found it. yes seat pads are in the coding, mine says not active, if someone wanted to change this they would need to swap the nicht-aktiv to aktiv
but as you have no airbag there is no point, it may make error codes worse.
