My obc temp is way out 35deg.
Probe in bumper on 2002 3ltr, part no65816905050.
Question is has this part been superceeded by 65816905133 as plenty for sale as 3 series probes.
Prices for quoted 050 ones are 6 times more.
Look the same and I do not want to order one only to find a 133 is sent as its the superceeded one costing 6 times more.
Any ideas from anyone with a good parts book or have recently changed their probe?
Regards Les

Hi Les,

Looking at the online parts catalogue I get the part number 65818350779 for the outdoor temp sensor, a quick look on eBay shows them around £15-£25.

Was yours changed at some point?

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian not sure if its been changed as fault came with car only had it 3 weeks and working through my to do list. Looks a good few years old though.
Thanks Tony I will give them a call to check out options.
Just that I did not want to get the wrong one, on a quick google look it looks like the numbers could have been superceeded. Also don't wish to spend 6 times more than need be!

I think I found the answer, this may also be of help to others it looks like the 65816905133 fits most BM's . Found this online :-

Please note that Part number 65816905050 was superseded by part number 65816905133.

Thought that might be the case I could not imagine they would have so many types of OBC's using different types of probes.
This is for the Roadster in the front bumper, I know other Z3 variants have a different type of sensor fitted in a different location.

Will soon find out anyway!

Part arrived today (65816905133) fitted to Zed and was an instant fix reading the correct outside temperature.

So it might help someone else as it comes in at well under a 1/3rd of the price on a quoted specific model part number.

Chances are you might order a specific one and receive this one anyway as it appears to supersede most older ones.

Do you know if this will fit on the Z3M under the driver side wheel arch?

I've looked up the part number for the original sensor and they are over £100. Effectively they all work in the same way with a 12v supply and a ground, so I don't think there will be too much difference between the BMW sensor and a non specified air temp sensor. Some can be calibrated so I might try some different ones and see what works.

If i remember rightly the z3m probe is different. I converted a prefacelift 2.8 to a z3m console and the z3m gauge was massively out when i used the 2.8 probe.
I brought one too match the gauge from an on line company for sub £20 that worked fine but it was 5 or 6 years ago and cannot recall who it was from.
