Hi All,

So having fired up my new C110 I found a couple of fuel trim errors and very quickly after that found a big split in the upper air duct this is on my 2001 2.2 M54. Checking realoem and online parts sites I quickly established i needed part 13541705209 however that's where the fun starts.

Whilst removing the duct I have of course almost destroyed it and it doesn't seem like the same part to me! The replacement part and realoem show this duct as one piece running from MAF to lower section with a very small port in the top for vac lines or something of that ilk with no other ports.

The one that's come off has another entry about an inch wide which connects to a box below the duct, looks like it goes into the filter assembly. If I connect the new duct this will be connected to nothing with the hose over the top. I cannot find a duct that seems to match this and everything looks correct, part number is correct for car and parts search by vin pull up this duct.

Does this make sense to anyone? Basically the one that came off has 4 entries, Maf end, lower duct end, vac hose? and inch wide underneath. New part 3 entries, Maf end, lower duct end and vac hose?

Cheers

Iain

The small offshoot pipe on the upper boot connects to the sucking jet pump clipped to the side of the engine alongside the idle control valve you should have a pipe running from the sucking jet pump if I recall correctly. The lower boot should only connect to the throttle body and the short offshoot pipe to the idle control valve. It connects to the upper boot with the plastic jointing ring. Not seen an upper bellows with a connection underneath running to anything.

That's the part I've got to replace it and I've been looking at many different models on realoem and youtube videos on replacing this duct and I can't see anything like it what has come off:( I'm almost wondering if the airbox itself is different and from a different model hence the duct is. The thing is it all looks exactly like it fits perfectly and also no records of any such replacement and I've got a load of receipts for it. It's extremely odd to be honest, I'll grab some photos in daylight tomorrow.

Edit : Update
I've found a part number on the remnants, hard to work out but think it's 13541435625. Time to google!

Seems to be an E39 part, I'm now wondering if the MAF is from an E39 and hence has a different boot. The car drives superbly although as I said I had a couple of trim errors, could it really use a different MAF?

It appears the box underneath is a resonator 13541438794 whatever that may be??? Does this even matter?

I think you have sussed it, wrong part fitted, that hole underneath would connect to the sound generator if it was fitted, just there to make the engine sound better. Check the part number on the Maf to see if its right for your car, plumb the replacement bellows in and see if that gets rid of the fuel trim errors, they are usually down to air leaks.

Well I’ve put the correct part in and removed the resonator and all is good!

That was a bit of a strange one!

Now to sort my Shock top mount issue and ABS issues.
